Janet Louise Kelley, 94, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Saturday, December 24, 2022, at 1:14 a.m. at Court House Manor Nursing Home where she had been residing since 2014.  She had been declining several years but had been extremely ill since November.

Janet was born May 16, 1928, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Everett Earl and Geneva Mae Swisshelm Hodson.  She was a 1946 graduate of Washington High School and was a lifelong resident of this community.

She met and married her beloved husband, Ivan G. Kelley, on June 1, 1946. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1981.  She was also preceded by her brother, Richard Hodson and brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Shirley Minshall.

She was a clerk for the Fayette County Clerk of Courts for 25 years before her retirement in 1988.

Janet was a member of the First Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was active in all activities in her church.  At church potlucks, and all family gatherings, all would race quickly to the front of the line to get a spoonful of her famous potato salad or a piece of her freshly-baked butterscotch pie.  Those recipes will be passed to future generations of the Kelley family!

Janet is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel C. and Donna Kelley and David L. and Patty Kelley, all of Washington Court House; five grandchildren, Cameron (Sandra) Kelley of Cincinnati, Cory (Katherine) Kelley of Franklin, TN, Kyler (Sarah) Kelley, Ty (Cheri) Kelley and Travis (Hallie) Kelley, all of Washington Court House; eight great grandchildren, Caroline and Clara Kelley of Cincinnati, OH, Kennedy and McKinley Kelley and Mason and Brynlee Kelley, all of Washington Court House and Charley Mae and Cooper Kelley of Franklin, Tennessee; a sister-in-law; Marjorie Hodson of Beavercreek and a step-sister, Helen Sollars of Bloomingburg.

The funeral will be Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Todd Maurer, minister of senior ministries at Southside Church of Christ and a longtime friend of the family, officiating.  Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 p.m. (noon) Wednesday until time of the service.

Christie Jo “Chrissy” Wilt, 41, of Bloomingburg, Ohio passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 6:25 p.m. while   surrounded by her family at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe where she had been a patient one day.

Christie was born January 21,1981, in Clinton County, Ohio to Paul Allen and Carolyn Rose “Rosie” Erbaugh Whittington, Jr.   She was a 1999 graduate of East Clinton High School and received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications from the College of Agriculture at The Ohio State University and later earned a master’s degree from OSU.

She joined the Miami Trace School district in 2006, and currently was serving as Credit Flex Director for the district.  As an educator, she greatly impacted the lives of those around her as she perfected the art of balancing many great qualities.  She was loving, kind, positive, encouraging, firm and unequivocally dedicated to the success of her students..

Christie was a member of the Bloomingburg United Methodist Church. She formerly was an advisor for the Blue Ribbon Champs 4-H Club and continued to stay involved with her kid’s 4-H activities.  She loved showing cattle on the local, state and national levels.  She was an avid gardener and enjoyed flowers.  One of her favorite things was driving her jeep, with the top down, on sunny days.  But her greatest passion was helping people and assisting her students to make sure they graduated from high school.  As her final act of kindness, she was a participant in the Lifeline of Ohio organ and tissue donor program and generously gave the gift of life to others.

She was preceded in death by her mother on December 22, 2020.  She was also preceded by her paternal grandfather, Paul A. Whittington, Sr. and maternal grandparents, Harold and Flora Rose Erbaugh.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew L. “Matt” Wilt whom she married September 21, 2002; three children, August Whittington “Gus” Wilt, Jocie Lynn Wilt and Clinton Matthew Wilt; her father, Paul A. Whittington, Jr. of Sabina; four sisters, Carrie Hogue and her husband, Jon, of Circleville, Candie Glover and her husband, David, of Marion, IL, Cassie Whittington of Grandview, OH and Cherie Campbell and her husband, Nick, of New Holland; her maternal grandmother, Betty L. Whittington of Sabina; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jerry and Jeanne Wilt of Bloomingburg and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Christie’s family will greet friends at the Mahan Building on the Fayette County Fairgrounds beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023.   A brief celebration of life service, led by the Rev. Phillip Webb, pastor at the Bloomingburg United Methodist Church, will begin at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a time of food and fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christie J.  Paul Roger Minshall, 84, of New Holland, Ohio passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, at 2:15 p.m. at his home.  He had been in failing health.

Paul was born December 26, 1937, in Fayette County, Ohio to James Carl and Dorothy Helen Mitchem Minshall.  He was a lifelong resident of the New Holland community where he was a retired farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James A. “Jake” Minshall on June 14, 2020, and a sister, Sarah J. Shortreed on August 3, 2020.

He is survived by his loving wife, the former Carol Jean Wolfe whom he married October 10, 1959; his children, Rita (Mike) Miller of Madison Mills, OH, Tammie Monroe of Washington Court House, Dan (Tracy) Minshall and Kathy (Joe) Seymour, all of New Holland; eight grandchildren, Andrea (Dereck) Reedy, Brian (Nikki) Miller, Amanda Monroe, Zach (Taylor) Monroe, Trevor Seymour, Makayla Seymour, Danniel Minshall and Jordan Minshall; several great grandchildren; a brother, Carl “Sam” Minshall of New Holland; a sister-in-law, Trudy (David) Seymour of Washington Court House; special niece, Hollie Terhune; special friends, Arnold and Joyce Dawson of Jackson and many other relatives, friends and neighbors.

The funeral will be Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 12 Noon at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with Larry Stiles, former minister at the New Holland Church of Christ, officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.

Peggy (Margaret) Whiteside Louis, 97, of New Bremen, Ohio, formerly of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at 11:46 a.m. at the Elmwood Assisted Living Center in New Bremen where she had been residing since May. She had been in declining health two years.

Peggy was born November 23, 1925, in Clinton County, Ohio to Grant Thomas and Mary Clara Mullen Whiteside.  She grew up in Sabina, Ohio and was a graduate of Sabina High School. During World War II, she met her husband, John Louis, and was married in El Paso, Texas on July 7, 1943. She traveled across the globe during his military career and settled back into Fayette County in 1969.

She was a member of Maple Grove Methodist Church for nearly 24 years where she taught children’s Sunday School. She later was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Washington Court House for 27 years.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband on May 31, 1999, and brother Gilbert E. Whiteside on December 16, 2014.

She is survived by her only son, David, and his wife, Luan, of New Bremen, OH; two grandchildren, Kyle (Diane) of Seattle, WA, and Juliet of Columbus, OH and a great-granddaughter, Charlotte, of Seattle, WA.

The funeral will be Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.  Private burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.

Beverly Jean Qualls, 87, of Washington Court House, Ohio passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 9:22 p.m. at her home following a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.  She was blessed to be surrounded by her loving family.

Beverly was born September 18, 1935, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Herbert L. and Pauline Stepter Crosswhite.  She was a graduate of Washington High School and lived most of her life in Washington Court House.

She was a retired STNA who took care of many people throughout her life.

Beverly was so proud of her ancestry.  She was a direct descendant, on the Crosswhite side, of Madison Hemmings, the son of Sally Hemmings and historically rumored Thomas Jefferson.  Recent DNA tests confirmed a match to the male line in the Jefferson family.  Her great great grandmother, Harriet Hemmings Butler, daughter of Madison Hemmings and granddaughter of Sally Hemmings, is buried in Bloomingburg Cemetery.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Michael T. Qualls, Steven Gregory Qualls and Robert Alan “Robbie” Qualls; brothers, Robert Crosswhite and his wife, Jeanette, Norman Crosswhite,  and Herbert D. “Herbie” Crosswhite; a sister, Alberta StewarD; aunts and uncles, Theresa Jones, Raleigh and Kate Stepter, nieces, Robbin Crosswhite, Lesley Stepter and Tina Cropsswhite and a nephew, Juan (Butchie) Steward.

She is survived by a daughter, Chiquita (Roger) Nash; a son, Anthony D’wayne Qualls; three grandchildren, Michael Nash, MicKenna Nash, and MiCayla (Quantez) Claybrooks; two great grandchildren, Memphis and Mykhal Claybrooks; two brothers, Earl (Toyia) Crosswhite and William (Rita) Crosswhite and special cousins, Paula Stepter, Fulton (Bertha) Terry, Delores Lindsey and Gail Wilkerson.

The funeral will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the First Church of God, 610 Harrison Street with Pastor Patrick Gamble, minister at the church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

The viewing will be held Friday, December 16, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

Betty Jane Holland, 98, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Friday, December 9, 2022, at 6:07 a.m. at her home.

Betty was born March 25, 1924, in Washington Court, Ohio to Montford Edison and Louise Minshall Stewart.  She was a graduate of Washington High School and lived most of her life in Washington Court House.

She formerly was a longtime legal secretary at Kiger Law Office and had assisted in the Office of the Fayette County Prosecutor.  She had also worked at Parrett Insurance Agency.

Betty was a member of the Heritage Memorial Church of Christ in Christian Union.  She was an avid crocheter and enjoyed playing computer games.  She also loved her travels to Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Herbert “Bert” Holland on March 18, 1988, and a son-in-law, Dennis Warner.

She is survived by four children, Alan “Chip” Holland and his wife, Claudia, of Topinabee, MI; Toni Kay Warner of Delaware, Ohio, Dianne “Dee Dee” Moulder and her husband, Darryl, of Canal Fulton, OH and Debbie Miller and her husband, Kevin, of Washington Court House; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and her beloved dog, Sweetie.

A private graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the Washington Cemetery with her son-in-law, the Rev. Darryl Moulder, officiating.  Burial will be under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

There will be no calling hours.

Nancy Lynn Cornell, 67, of Sabina, Ohio passed away Monday, December 5, 2022, at 8:06 p.m. at her home following a year-long battle with cancer.

She was born September 18, 1955, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Gary Lee and Beulah Dean “Boots” Wilson Weeter.  She was a 1973 graduate of Washington High School and lived most of her life in Washington Court House and Sabina.

For the past ten years, Nancy had been the fiscal officer for the Village of Sabina.

She enjoyed shopping and her yearly trips to the beach.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father on July 26, 1995, and her mother on January 28, 2017.

She is survived by her companion of 23 years, Carl C. Mullen; a son, Gary Todd Cornell and his wife, Lissa, of Washington Court House; three grandchildren, K’Lynn, Hayden and Noah Cornell; three siblings, Peggy J. VanHorn and her husband, Timothy, of New Holland, Mitchell L. Weeter and his wife, Pam, of Lancaster and Nadara A. Price and her husband, Herb, of Bloomingburg; nephews, Brody Price, Jacob (Emily) Moore and Nick Miller and a great niece, Presley Moore.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place.

A memorial service will be held Friday, December 9, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Greg Fessler officiating.  Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in the Highlawn Cemetery.

Jacqueline Kay “Jackie” Pope Loudner, 77, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 12:50 a.m. at Court House Manor where she had been a patient the past month.

Jackie was born on February 17, 1945, in Good Hope, Ohio to Paul and Louise Duff Pope and was reared in the Good Hope community.  She was a 1963 graduate of Miami Trace High School.  From an early age, Jackie had a great love for education and children.  She earned a bachelor of science in education in 1967, from The Ohio State University. Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life, Raymond J. Loudner, on June 29, 1968. She decided to further her education and earned a master’s degree from the University of Dayton in 1982.

Jackie began her career as a teacher in the Columbus Public Schools and then began teaching at Washington City Schools where she taught from 1968, until her retirement in 2001, as a reading specialist.

Jacqueline was a proud member of the Mother’s Circle organization, Grace United Methodist Church, and her beloved “Lunch Bunch”. The Lunch Bunch group met weekly for over 55 years and was compromised of friends who were like family: Marlene Rankin, Nancy Ratliff, Peggy Vrettos, Marilyn Dawson, Karen Bernard, Pat Gall, Karen Hoppes, Judy Clay, and Sandy Gruber. She loved to host luncheons, parties, and make everyone she knew feel welcomed and loved. Jacqueline was an avid Bridge and Euchre player and loved spending her time on Anna Maria Island, Florida. She treasured her black cat; Chappie, Diet Coke, travel, golf, monograms and doting on her grandchildren. She was always packed and ready for her next adventure. Her sweet smile and laugh filled every room she entered.

Jacqueline is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ray; her two daughters, Erin Loudner Emerson (John) Phillips of Edgewood, KY and Regan Loudner of Columbus; her granddaughters: Quincy, Darby, and Lily Emerson; a brother, Ronald Pope; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Judy and Topper Black, and special nieces and nephews: April (David) McCarty, Chip (Allison) Black, Brent (Anna) Black and Tiffany (Ben) Adler.

Jacqueline valiantly fought against myelofibrosis for 22 years and did not allow her condition to get in the way of living a beautiful and joy-filled life full of love and adventure. She will forever be remembered as the most loving, strong, giving, and warmhearted mother, wife, and friend to all.

The funeral will be Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 3 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church, 301 East Market Street, Washington Court House, with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at the church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. Tuesday until time of the service.

Cody Lee Eubanks, 30, of Washington Court House, Ohio went home to his Lord on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 2:57 a.m. at his home. His death was sudden and unexpected.
Cody was born December 12, 1991, at London in Madison County, Ohio to Hesper Lee Eubanks and lived in and around Washington Court House most of his life.
He had been a dedicated employee of Kroger in Washington Court House the past nine years.
Cody was an avid Reds, Buckeye and Eagles fan and loved fishing and playing video games.
On November 20, 2020, he married the love of his life, the former Chyla LeeAnn Jones. Along with his wife, he is survived by his mom and step-dad, Hesper and Ben Ziegler of Washington Court House; his siblings, Dustin Eubanks and Ostin Capehart of Washington Court House, Leigha Cassero of Cincinnati and Aubrey and Lilly Capehart, both of Washington Court House; nephews, Eli Eubanks and Wyatt Cassero; nieces, Kaylee, Kyndall, Konley and Kaylin Jones, all of New Holland; his father-in-law, David Jones of Washington Court House grandparents-in-law, Robert and Mary Jane Chrisman of New Holland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cholby and Kari Jones of New Holland; his beloved dog, Cash, and a huge host of friends.

In keeping with his family’s wishes, cremation took place.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the New Holland Church of Christ, with Michael Hodge, pastor at the Walnut Hill Church of Christ in Christian Union, officiating.

Shirley Jo Pyle Thompson Stackhouse, 89, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Thursday, November 24, 2022, at 6:45 p.m. at Court House Manor where she had been a patient since October 5.  She had been ill since August 4, 2022.

Shirley was born November 13, 1933, in a log cabin between two hills in Pike County, Ohio to Charles Clayton and Constance Gayle Keller Pyle.  She went to school in Beaver, Ohio until 1941, then moved to Washington Court House when she entered the third grade at Central Elementary.  She was a 1951 graduate of Washington High School where she was in the “Best Band in the Land” for four years as a snare drummer.  She was elected Homecoming Queen for the 1950-1951 school year.

Following graduation, she went to work at the Wright-Paterson Air Force Base where she met her first husband, Harold Myers Thompson.  Following the birth of two sons and her divorce, she returned to Washington Court House to work at National Cash Register.  She later worked part time at the Fayette County Treasurer’s office for ten years, before becoming a full-time mom.  Shirley then became involved with the Fayette County Special Olympics with her special needs son, Chuck.

Shirley was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and loved to plant flowers and tomatoes.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold M. Thompson.  On November 20, 1959, she married John Irvin “Jack” Stackhouse.  He preceded her in death on January 28, 2006.  She was also preceded by her parents; a brother, Jack E. Pyle; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy D. “Dottie” and John Ervin and Constance M. “Connie” and Robert “Bud” Meriweather and a nephew, Dan Douglas Ervin and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by four sons, David M. Thompson and his wife, Lisa, of Webster, NY, Brent A. Thompson of Cincinnati, Mark D. Stackhouse and his wife, Susan, and Charles E. (Chuck) Stackhouse, all of Washington Court House; four grandchildren, David M. Thompson, Jr., Kristina (Scott) Graham, Jennifer (Joel) Pomeroy and Jessica (Justin) Collier; eight great grandchildren; 13 nieces and nephews; two aunts, Joan Eisenaugle and Tootie Keller, both of Jackson; a cousin, Retired Admiral Stanley R. Arthur of Florida and many friends from the Class of 1951 and the Special Olympics.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place.

Arrangements for a graveside service, to be held in the Washington Cemetery with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating, will be announced by the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
