Donald E. Campbell, 90, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 1:42 p.m. at the Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus where he had been a patient two days.
Don was born September 20, 1935, in Pickaway County, Ohio to Earl and Martha Washington Timmons Campbell. He was a 1953 graduate of New Holland High School and served as senior class president. He moved to Washington Court House in 1956.
He retired in 1994, as a foreman, at Armco after 38 years of service. He was a school bus driver for Miami Trace Schools for five years and transported prisoners for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and Orient CRC for three years.
Don was a member of Bloomingburg Lodge F & AM #449; 32nd Degree Masons, Valley of Columbus; Aladdin Temple Shrine in Columbus where he was in the Provost Unit, Jesters and Hillbilly Shriners; Washington Shrine Club, Fayette County Fish and Game Association; National Rifle Association, Fayette County Commission on Aging and the New Holland Alumni Association. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a member of Paul H. Hughey Post #25 of the American Legion. He had served as a Fayette County Deputy Sheriff since 1962, and was a member of the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn V. and Marvin Knisley and his former wife, Phyllis Follrod Campbell.
He is survived by a son, Dennis E. Campbell of Washington Court House; a brother, David E. Campbell and his wife, Pat, of Marietta, GA; two nephews, David Eric Campbell and his wife, Kate, of Hersey, PA, and Marvin Eugene Knisley and his wife, Beverly, of Danbury, CT; a niece, Benji Knisley and her husband, Shaun Keenan, of Somerville, Maine and several grand nieces and nephews.
A graveside service, with complete military honors, will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at the New Holland Cemetery with Mell Wickensimer officiating.
Friends may call at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at which time a Masonic service, followed by a rose service, both of which are open to the public, will be held.
