Barbara Ann Zoodsma, 87, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 2:44 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Manor of Washington Court House where she had been a patient since March 15.

Barbara was born May 25,1935, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to John and Stella Lamper Feenstra.  She was a 1953 graduate of Union High School in Grand Rapids and attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College.  She moved to Washington Court House in 1977, from Lawrence, MI.

She served as Fayette County Recorder for 13½ years and previous to that had worked at the Fayette County Law Library and for Hammond and Hammond Attorneys.

Barbara was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church where she had been an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women’s Circle.  She currently had been attending the State Route 38 Church of Christ.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society; the Fayette County Republican Club and had been a member of the Washington Court House Business and Professional Women’s Club.

On September 24, 1953, she married Lester Paul Zoodsma.  He preceded her in death on December 12, 1995.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Dale Zoodsma on September 12, 2017.

She is survived by three children, Paul Zoodsma and his wife, Dona, of Cookeville, TN; Carl Zoodsma and his wife, Connie, of Washington Court House and Ellen Zoodsma of Monroe, NC; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Phyllis Feenstra of Texas and two sisters, Ruth Bloom and her husband, Russell, of Florida and Mary Ellen VanSoestberg, of Texas.

The funeral will be Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House. A private burial will take place Friday, March 31, 2023, in the Cascade Township Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Friends may call at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of the service.

Janet Kay McNabb Workman, 64, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Thursday morning, March 23, 2023,  at her home.

Janet was born October 27, 1958, in Dayton, Ohio to Howard Junior and Irene Estelle Marguerite Bloomquist McNabb.  She was a 1977 graduate of Wayne High School in Huber Heights and had formerly lived in Fort Wayne, IN and Huber Heights, OH but spent most of her life in Fayette County.

She had served three years as executive secretary at the Ohio State House; worked ten years in customer service at Mac Tools, Inc.; served as head teller at U.S. Bank and was in sales at Heartstrings at the Tanger Outlet Mall in Fayette County.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church.  She had formerly sung with the Fayette County Choral Society; had been a member of the Washington Lioness Club; participated in The Walk to Emmaus and Chrysalis.  She enjoyed music, computers, watching television and especially her dogs, Paxton and Milo.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Bill Hankins and brothers-in-law, Ronald L. Dowler, Michael B. Campbell, Marvin L. Heinberger and Bob Graska.

She is survived by her husband, Mark J. Workman whom she married December 6, 1980; a son, Lucas J. Workman and his fiancée, Natasha Nohle, of Wappingers Falls, NY; two sisters, Patricia Heinberger of Mansfield and Paula Campbell of Washington Court House; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Virgil and Vera Workman of Sabina; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Diane and Tom Douglas of New Lebanon, OH and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, March 27, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Washington Court House with her nephew, Jeff Graska, associate worship pastor at The Father’s House Church in Canton, and Eddie Gault, minister at the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Cremation will follow the service and burial of the cremains will be at a later date in the Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church Sunday from 3-6 p.m.

Calvin Leonard Bellar, 78, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Sunday, March 19, 2023, at 11:39 p.m. at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

Calvin was born February 3, 1945, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Harry C. and Margaret Jane Conger Bellar.  He was a lifelong resident of this community where he was a retired laborer.

He faithfully attended the Grace United Methodist Church.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ralph Bellar and a sister, Anna Mae Litteral.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Dennis Canter of Mount Sterling, Ohio; two grandchildren, Lacey Duffy and Joshua Hudson; special friends and caregivers, John R. Meriweather and Dicka Nye and his other caring members of the Grace United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church.

Private burial of the cremains will be in the Washington Cemetery under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

Edna Elizabeth Ooten, 88, of New Holland, Ohio died Sunday, March 19, 2023, at 10:32 p.m. shortly after arrival at the Adena Fayette Medical Center.  She had been in failing health.

Edna was born January 9, 1935, at Glouster in Athens County, Ohio to Glen and Edith Tippie McClelland.  She lived most of her life in Columbus before returning to Glouster.  She had lived in New Holland the past year.

She formerly was a mail clerk for direct mail companies and had also worked at the Glouster Post Office.

Edna was a member of the ladies auxiliary of Aerie #468 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Glouster

She attended the Glouster Church of Christ and enjoyed reading and keeping in contact with people by writing letters.

Edna was preceded in death by the father of her children, Richard E. Temple on June 7, 1993; two daughters, Diane and Linda and five siblings, Jack, Paul, Shirley, Glen and Ilean.

She is survived by her husband, Mark J. Ooten whom she married November 15, 1996; five children, Bill Martin of Columbus, Katherine Coleman and her husband, Rick, of Columbus,  Edie Parker and her husband, Jeff, of Delaware, Ohio, Rich Temple and his wife, Mindi, of Galloway and Theresa Moore and her husband, Jack, of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Billie Jo, Michael, Amanda, Shari, Ashley, Natalie, Joshua and Rileigh; several great grandchildren; six siblings, Cynthia, Charles, Bob, Fred, Denny and Toni; numerous nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Margaret “Sis” Castle.

The funeral will be Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.

A memorial service for Betty Jean Montgomery, 95, of Washington Court House will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Judy Chapel in Washington Cemetery, with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial of the cremains will follow in Washington Cemetery under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

Betty, widow of Joseph Benson (Ben) Montgomery, died, January 29, 2023, at Court House Manor Nursing Home.

Ethel Louise Jordan, 90, of London, Ohio, formerly of Washington Court House, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023, at 5:11 p.m. at The Ohio State University Hospital East in Columbus where she had been a patient the past week.

Louise was born March 28, 1932, in Kingston, Ohio to Nolan D. and Ethel B. Findlay Bitzer.   She was a 1950 graduate of West High School in Columbus and a 1954 graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in home economics.

She formerly taught home economics at Utica High School and later did extensive substitute teaching at various area schools.  For many years she assisted her husband with his dental practice in Washington Court House.

Louise formerly attended South Side Church of Christ and was currently a member of the Greenfield Church of Christ.  She was also a member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority; the Mother’s Circle and The Ohio State University Alumni Club.  She enjoyed baking, quilting and sewing but especially being with her family.

On June 9, 1956, she married John Thomas Franklin Jordan.  He preceded her in death on January 19, 2021.  She was also preceded by two sons-in-law, Michael Douds and Greg Davis; her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John G. and Pearl Welty Jordan; a sister and brother-in-law, Maryann and Richard Cassidy and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, LaVonne and Frank Creamer.

She is survived by four daughters, Linda Murden and her husband, Dr. Robert Murden, of Worthington, OH; Joan Jordan of Providence, RI; Jenny Hildebrand and her husband, Drew, and Julie Davis, all of London, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jonathan Douds, Alyson Douds, Adam Phillips, Dr. Eric Phillips and his wife, Dr. Samar Sheriff, Frank Hildebrand and Jordan Hildebrand; two great grandsons, Steven Miller and Noah Phillips; her cousin and best friend, Bruce Findlay and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Danny Dodds, minister at the Greenfield Church of Christ, officiating  Burial of the cremains will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of the service.

Kenneth Joseph Pauly, 78, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Friday, March 10, 2023, at 11:02 a.m. at his home.  He had been ill three months.

Kenny was born April 24, 1944, in Ashland, Ohio to Edward and Clara Cantleberry Pauly.  He was a 1962 graduate of Ashland High School and lived most of his life in Ashland and Mansfield.  He had lived in Washington Court House, spending the winters in Florida, the past 13 years.

He had formerly farmed with his father and later was a truck driver for 12 years.  For the past 13 years, he had been assisting Garth Hynes with his farming operation.

Kenny attended the Fayette Bible Church and had served in the Ohio National Guard.  He enjoyed painting while in Florida and loved spending time with his dogs, especially during their early morning walks.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dave Pauly.

Kenny is survived by his wife, the former Bonnie Jean Cole, whom he married February 1, 1968; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Joe Garland of Washington Court House; a son, Kenny R. Pauly and his partner, Maryann, of Columbus; three grandchildren, Kendra Pauly and Edward Pauly and Katherine Hynes and two brothers, Larry Pauly of South Carolina and Phil Pauly of Ashland.

At his request, cremation has taken place.

A celebration of life service and a luncheon, for family and friends, will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 1 p.m. at  the home of Teresa Garland, 2720 Bunker Hill-Glendon Road-SW, Washington Court House.

John Robert Bane, Jr., 82, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Monday, February 27, 2023, at 11:18 p.m. at the Court House Manor Nursing Home where he had been residing since January 26.

Bob was born December 11, 1940, in Gallia County, Ohio to John Robert and Edith Clark Bane.  He was reared in Gallia County and was a 1958 graduate of Gallia Academy High School in Gallipolis.  He received a bachelor’s degree in education from Rio Grande College in 1962.

He taught mathematics for 24 years in the Washington Court House City Schools and eight years at the Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development in Wilmington.  He retired from teaching on May 31, 1994.  He was a school bus driver while in college and continued part time while teaching school.  After his retirement from teaching, he drove a bus for the Washington City Schools from 1998-2003.

In 1975, he was commissioned as a police officer with the Washington Court House Police Department.  He devoted many hours of service to the city and especially to his fellow officers on patrol.

Bob was very much involved with the Fayette County Life Squad.  He was an EMT and crew leader, beginning the first day that service was established in Fayette County.  He worked the night shift then would teach school the next day.  He served as the coordinator of the EMS service from 1980-1982.  He served one term as president of the life squad and later was appointed, by the Fayette County Commissioners, to the EMS Board of Directors and served on the board for the next nine years.  He also served as a dispatcher for the squad.

He had a love for driving trucks and, at the age of 18, began hauling freight multi-state during the summers and bulk milk on the weekends.  He later drove dump trucks for construction companies and became a full-time driver for M C Trucking at Melvin Stone near Sabina in 2003.  He was employed by Southwest Paving in the mid and late 60’s as a plant operator at Fayette Limestone in Fayette County.

Bob was the manager of the swimming pool in Washington Court House from 1971-1985 when the local Rotary Club owned the facility.  He was instrumental in the addition of the 50-meter Olympic pool in 1978.

He was a 45-year member of Fayette Lodge F&AM #107 and was currently serving as treasurer; was a member of the 32^nd Degree Masons, Valley of Columbus; Aladdin Temple Shrine in Columbus and the Washington Shrine Club.  He was a member and past exalted ruler of Washington Lodge #129 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, was a member of the Fayette Aerie #423 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; was a social member of O.E. Hardway Post #3762 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; a member and past president of Associates Lodge #56 of the Fraternal Order of Police Associates in Washington Court House; the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association and the Fayette County Fish and Game Association.

Bob as very much into the rural life.  He maintained a residence in Kentucky on Lake Cumberland for many years.  He truly enjoyed fishing and boating and having visitors at his cabin at Beaver Creek Resort near Monticello, Kentucky.

He was very fond of his umbrella cockatoo, Venus, who the only pet he ever owned.

Bob was never married.  He devoted his life to helping others and having many friends, both professionally and socially, and is survived by those many friends and co-workers.  Also surviving is a sister, Bonita Westerberg of Grayslake, IL.

A Masonic service, which is open to the public, will be held Friday, March 3, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.  The funeral will immediately follow the Masonic service with Danny Dodds, minister at the Greenfield Church of Christ, officiating.  Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery.

Patricia Ann (Kadel) Wood, 86, of Washington Court House, Ohio, died Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 12:37 a.m. shortly after admission to the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.  Her death was sudden and unexpected.

Patricia was born November 28, 1936, in Springfield, Ohio to Albert “Bud” and Janet Knicely Kadel.  She moved to Washington Court House in 2015, from Carmel, IN.

Over a 40-year career, Patricia built many relationships and was well respected for her knowledge and love of fine jewelry.  It was her vocation and passion.

Starting a very young age, she revealed her love of music through singing in the church choir and took every opportunity to share her talents, playing the piano.  The love of music led her to enjoy her role for many years in Vaud-Villities.

Patricia was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Tarrier on June 18, 2014; by her parents and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doris and Charles Wood.

She is survived by her husband, John Michael Wood whom she married August 11, 1975; three children and their spouses, Monte and Beth Studebaker of Columbus, Tom and Carolyn Studebaker of Washington Court House and Michelle and Scott Bean of Upper Arlington; her grandchildren, Sarah (David). Caitlin, Christian, Chloe (John), Jordan (Megan), Avery (Jared), Rachael (Troy), Bekah (Joe) Alexa (Andrew) and Andy (Sarah) and great grandchildren, Seely, Dillon, Greer, Sayer, Henry, Harry, Elle and Jack; Also surviving are a son-in-law, Tim Tarrier; daughter-in-law, Nikki Studebaker; brother-in-law, Richard Wood; nephews, David (Monica) Wood and Steven (Starla) Wood and great nieces, Avery and Olivia Wood.

Cremation will take place with a private family gathering to be held at a later date.

Nathaniel Scott (Nathan) Cornetet, 42, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he had been a patient since February 15 following a motorcycle accident in Washington Court House.

Nathan was born September 17, 1980, in Dayton, Ohio to Russell Louis and Sharon Louise Mecham Cornetet.  He was a 1999 graduate of Northwestern High School in Springfield.

He served 20 years in the U.S. Army before retiring as a staff sergeant in 2018.  He currently was a sales service representative for Gordon Food Service.  Nathan recently completed a degree in cyber security.

Nathan was a member of O.E. Hardway Post #3762 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; enjoyed participating in bowling and softball leagues; was a motorcycle enthusiast and had a love for live music.

Nathan is survived by his wife, Brandi Dawn Jago-Cornetet whom he married June 10, 2017; six children, Brandon, Gavon, Carson and Kyndall Cornetet, Layla Moore and Draydon Moore; a grandson, Carter Moore; his mother and step-father, Sharon and Johnny Diviak of Springfield, OH; his father and step-mother, Russell and Beverly Cornetet of Liberty Township, OH; seven siblings, Kirsten (Nick) Walters of Springfield, Emily Diviak (Justin) McHaney of Enon, Megan Diviak of Springfield, Michelle (Eric) Laudick of Waynesville, OH, Jonathan (Bethany) Likens of Bellbrook, OH, Melissa (Chad Bowers) Zarrouk of Kettering and Kelli (Todd Worthen) Likens.  During his life, Nathan had the joy of having numerous nieces and nephews to love.  He was the kindest soul with the biggest heart, and therefore, has numerous friends that are called family.

Friends may call at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House, Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 5-7 p.m.  A time of remarks and remembrances will follow the visitation.

Cremation will take place with burial of the cremains at the Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.

Nathan was a giving person, and his final gift was that of organ and tissue donation to save and heal the lives of others.
