SHERRY THACKER SEMER JACKS (Updated)

Sherry Lynn Thacker Semer Jacks, 75, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Monday, February 26, 2024, at 3:58 a.m. at the Adena Fayette Medical Center where she had been a patient since February 15.

Sherry was born June 8, 1948, in New Holland, Ohio to Everett William and Opal Norene Schrake Thacker.  She was a 1966 graduate of Miami Trace High School where she was class valedictorian.  She received a bachelor’s degree in medical technology in 1971, from The Ohio State University. She lived most of her life in New Holland and Washington Court House.

She worked at The Ohio State University medical laboratories and the Fayette County Memorial Hospital laboratories for over 30 years.  She received certification as a blood bank specialist in 1982, from The Ohio State University and the American Red Cross.  She also was an emergency medical technician with the Fayette County Life Squad during its early years of organization.

Sherry was a longtime member of the First Christian Church and the Crossroads Christian Church.  She enjoyed watching OSU football, traveling, snorkeling, water aerobics, cross stitching and caring for her pet cats and generally seeing God’s magnificent creations.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel Allen Semer on March 29, 1976; by her second husband, David Neil Jacks on July 31, 2021; her parents; a brother-in-law, Darwin E. Fultz and a sister-in-law, Patricia Pierson.

She is survived by a sister, Barbara L. Fultz; three nephews, Dustin Ruth, Jeff Ruth and his wife, Theresa, and Robert Ruth, all of Washington Court House; brothers-in-law, Stephen (Winnie) Jacks of DeGraff, OH and David (Cathy) Semer of Lima, sister-in-law, Della (Ron) McCleary of Ft. Wayne, IN, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including a special cousin, Debbie Robinson and her husband, David.

The funeral will be Friday, March 1, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Adam Lynch, minister at Crossroads Christian Church and Todd Maurer, connections minister at Southside Church of Christ, officiating.  Burial will follow in New Holland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 11 a.m. until time of the service.
