BARBARA JANE HINCHMAN

Barbara Jane Hinchman, 104, of Troy, Ohio, died Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 8:38 p.m. at StoryPoint Troy Assisted Living where she had been residing since 2017.

Barbara was born December 31, 1921, in Cumberland, MD to Henry W. and Jennie Kelly Bucy.  She was reared by her foster parents, Howard and Hazel Thorne of Beverly, WV.  She was a 1939 graduate of Beverly High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, WV in 1943.  She moved to Ohio in 1953, and lived many years in the Madison Mills, OH community before moving to Hillsboro, OH and then later to Troy.

She was a business education teacher at Miami Trace High School for 33 years before her retirement in 1988.  She had previously taught for three years in West Virginia.

Barbara was a member of the Madison Mills United Methodist Church and the Ohio and Fayette County Retired Teachers Associations.  She was an avid reader and had a great interest in genealogy.  She loved family gatherings and was known as an awesome cook.  She had an extensive collection of cookbooks.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Hinchman on July 27, 1991; her son, Randall Lee Hinchman on December 6, 2008, and a brother, W. Montgomery Bucy.

Barbara was a beloved aunt and is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Alicia Kimmel of Covington, OH and Christie Brown of Troy, OH who were her caregivers.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at the Highlawn Cemetery with Jon Silveous, pastor at the Good Hope  Methodist Church, officiating..  Burial will be under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

    Mrs. Hinchman was my typing teacher at Miami Trace. She was stern, but fair. Typing was one of the few skills I learned in high school that I continue to use today. Thank you and rest in peace.
