Sandra S. Sowash, 75, of Washington Court House, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord at 11:14 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe while surrounded by her loving family and friends.

She was born July 15, 1949, in Crestline, Ohio to the late Harry E. and Mary Ellen Bauer.

Sandy is survived by the love of her life, William L. Sowash, whom she married on August 19, 1972; by a daughter, Gina R. (Heidi) Smith, of Washington Court House; a son, Jared B. (Amanda) Sowash, of Crestline, Ohio, two grandsons, Taye and Tylan Smith and two granddaughters, Avalyn and Ainslee Sowash. She is also survived by a sister, Brenda (Michael) Turinsky, two sisters-in-law, Lisa Bauer and Charlotte Wilson, and a brother-in-law, Robert (Diana) Sowash.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bradley Obenour Bauer.

Sandy was a 1967 graduate of Crestline High School in Crestline, Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and a Master of Education degree from Xavier University.

In 2006, Sandy retired after 35 years of service, in the Miami Trace School system. In her tenure there, she taught health and physical education, was a high school guidance counselor and coached several girls’ sports teams.

Sandy was a social butterfly and enjoyed having a conversation with anyone. She was a member of WCH Grace Methodist Church, Alpha Delta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the DKG “Book Chicks” book club, Dazzling Divas Red Hat’s Society, Fayette County Commission on Aging, Senior Citizens of Fayette County and the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association.

She enjoyed playing Euchre with her senior friends, traveling, fishing and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 10 a.m. at WCH Grace Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Brookes officiating. Visitation will be held at the WCH Grace Methodist Church from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Keith “Bo” Morris, 71, of Coal Grove, Ohio, formerly of Washington Court House, Ohio died Tuesday, June 18, 2025, at 9:45 p.m. at King’s Daughter Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

Bo was born February 20, 1954, in Springfield, Ohio to Harry K. and Laura M. Dowler Morris.

He enjoyed playing cards, playing his guitar and listening to music.

Bo was preceded in death by his mother in 2015, his father in 1991, and a sister, Gail L. Russell in 1994.

He is survived by three children, Brian Keith Morris of Port Charlotte, Florida, David L. Morris of Sherrills Ford, NC and Brittany Crabtree of IN; eight grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Deborah Y. and James Wolfe, Lenora D. and Raymond Butcher and Ruth M. and Gordon Garringer, all of Washington Court House and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday, June 27, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Highlawn Cemetery in Washington Court House with Jon R. Silveous, pastor at the Good Hope Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

Jerry Raymond Boone, 76, of Washington Court House, Ohio passed away on Monday June 16, 2025.

Jerry was born on February 27, 1949, in Philipsburg, PA to Ethelene Louise and Raymond Boone. He was married to Linda Boone for 45 years.

Jerry was a wonderful husband, father to two boys, and grandfather to three grandkids.

His hobbies included running marathons, helping volunteer coaching sports from baseball to cross country for Miami Trace, and as much time outdoors fishing, camping, and hiking. One of his favorite places to go every year was the mountain streams of central Pennsylvania. He loved to take his family to this beautiful place and camp and fly fish for trout. Another hobby he enjoyed was running. He completed over 100 full marathons and did one in almost every state. At a younger age he enjoyed backpacking all over the country with his wife, brother, and many friends. Coaching baseball for his two sons was a major passion he had when they were growing up. He was a very involved and loving father who eventually gave that same love and dedication to his grandkids.

He is survived by his two sons and daughter in laws, John and Logan Boone of Bloomingburg, OH and James and Pimrose Boone of Pahrump, NV, his three grandchildren, Thea, Oliver, and Bryce Boone, and his brother, Greg Boone of Washington C.H., OH.

There will be no services.

Life is a journey, not a destination.  Well, they’ve finally reached their destination.  It is with profound sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Susan Thacker Walker of Wilmington, NC on June 13, 2025, at the age of 68 after her battle with cancer.

Susan is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert Walker, her two sons, Nicholas and Zachary Walker.  She is also survived by her two grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  She is preceded by her parents, Gerald Thacker and Maude (Martindale) Thacker and her sister, Vicki Burleson.

Susan grew up in New Holland, Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in journalism.  Susan had an illustrious and diverse work experience that included work as a YMCA program director, executive assistant for a federal insurance health company, administrator for a pharmaceutical company and as a consultant for Booz Allen and Hamilton.  But her most cherished experience was working for the United States Supreme Court.

Susan had an unquenchable quest for knowledge and travel.  She was an avid reader, especially of Stephen King novels.  She had the opportunity to travel the world and visit all seven continents.  She would never turn down a trip but especially enjoyed her adventures in South Africa and Antarctica.  With her humor, charm and infectious smile, Susan found long lasting friendships all around the world and realized that people are generally kindhearted towards others.

Given Susan’s travels, she was always enthusiastic about trying new culinary foods and replicating them at home.  No one turned down her delicious dishes.  A passionate cook and baker, Susan was known for putting together a spectacular display of food.

Her legacy will carry forward reminding us to live a life of thoughtfulness and acts of love.

A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the New Holland Cemetery, New Holland, Ohio

Wanda Hall Robinson, 95, of Washington Court House, Ohio passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 3:39 p.m. at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Washington Court House where she had been residing for the past two months.

Wanda was born on the family farm near Greenfield on August 17, 1929, to the late Elijah and Josephine Morrow Hall.  She was a 1947 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School in Greenfield where she was the 1946 homecoming queen.

She married Edward Lee Robinson on April 14, 1949, at the Greenfield Presbyterian Church.  Wanda worked at The Ohio State University as a secretary, as her husband completed his PhD studies.  She made a home in seven states, found a church to attend, a library for her children and taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school in every state she lived.  When her children were nearly grown, she began working as a secretary for the United States Department of Agriculture in Mississippi and Georgia.  She retired, with her husband, to Washington Court House where she helped her sisters care for their mother and father until their deaths.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband on August 19, 2003; by her parents; two brothers, William and Richard Hall and two sisters, Joellen Uhl and Mildred Ellett.

She Is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Greg Whitaker of Blackey, KY and Anne and William Quinn of Washington Court House; a step grandson, Brian Quinn and his wife, Kyla; two sisters, Jane Hall Beatty and her husband, Bill and Judith Fabb, all of Washington Court House and many nieces and nephews.

Her life was full of joy and selflessness, and she left the world a better place.

A private graveside service will be held at the Greenfield Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Brand, pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Washington Court House, officiating.  Burial will be under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

Roger Dean Bennett, 74, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 5:01 a.m. at Greenfield Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation where he had been residing the past year.

Roger was born December 15,1950, in Columbus, Ohio to Arlo and Mildred Rinehart Bennett.  He was a 1970 graduate of East Clinton High School and lived most of his life in the Milledgeville and Sabina communities before moving to Washington Court House from Sabina five years ago.

Before his retirement, he had worked in maintenance at the Super K-Mart in Hillsboro.  He had formerly been a machinist.

He was a master craftsman and woodworker and built and refurnished furniture.  He was an outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, skating and biking.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leroy, Robert, Richard and Norman Bennett and a sister, Betty Justice.

He is survived by wife, the former Phyllis Jean Coleman whom he had been with since 2002, before their marriage on May 16, 2011; four children, Kristina Bennett, Matthew Bennett and Brooke Bennett, all of Virginia Beach, VA and Dakotah Romohr of Wilmington, Ohio; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, James “Duke” Bennett of Tennesse; two sisters, Shirley Elzey of Wilmington and Dorothy Clark of Washington Court House and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be observed.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Washington Court House.  The Zoom connection to view the service is 771-637-5723, then use password 448337.

Susan Marie Manbevers, 54, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 11:55 p.m. at Copper Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation in Washington Court House where she had been a patient since March 31.

Susan was born January 15, 1971, in Fayette County, Ohio to Marvin Eugene and Gloria Jean Funk Manbevers, both of whom preceded her in death.  She was a 1989 graduate of Miami Trace High School and a lifelong resident of this community.

While in high school she played clarinet in the band, was a member of the color guard and held lead roles in the school musicals.

She enjoyed flowers and gardening but most of all loved spending time with her family.

Susan is survived by three children, Ryan D. Manbevers, Zoe J. Penwell and Zakkary M. Penwell, all of Washington Court House; a stepson, David A. Penwell of Columbus; four grandchildren, Frances, Oakley, Tyler and Kayden; a brother, Marvin E. Manbevers, Jr. and his wife, Julie, of Washington Court House and a nephew, Jacob C. Manbevers.

To honor her wishes, cremation will be observed.

Her family will hold a private remembrance but there will be no public visitation or service.

Rena Beth Higman, 66, of Columbus, Ohio, recently a resident at the Violet Springs Health Campus in Pickerington, Ohio passed away Friday, May 16, 2025, at 5:22 p.m. at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where she had been a patient since Tuesday.

Beth was born June 19, 1958, in Columbus, Ohio to Larry Ray and Virginia Lee Rodgers Higman.  Except for several years in Florida, she lived most of her life in Columbus.

She was a 1976 graduate of Frostproof (Florida) High School and received an associate degree from Polk Junior College in Lakeland, FL.

Beth was formerly a bank and debit card manager for the Huntington Bank and Kemba Credit Union.  She also had been a customer service manager at Cheryl’s Cookies.

She was a member and past regent of the Mathias Ridenour Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; a member of the Lucas Sullivant Chapter of the Ohio Daughters of the War of 1812, and the Fayette County Genealogical Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jeffrey Jay Higman and grandparents, Leo and Dorothy (Minshall) Rodgers and Charles and Una (Brooks) Higman.

Beth is survived by an aunt, Sue (Danny) Gilmore of Reynoldsburg, an uncle, Harlan Higman of Placerville, CA; cousins, Amy and Elaine Gilmore, and numerous other cousins; many dear friends including Dr. Christian Klem and Bernie Bryslan, both of Princeton, NJ and her special work friends, “The Amber Girls.”

Friends and family may call at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House, on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral procession to the New Holland Cemetery where a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m.

Richard William “Dobie” Allen, 66, of New Holland, Ohio died Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 12:11 p.m. shortly after arrival at the Adena Fayette Medical Center in Washington Court House.  He had been in failing health but his death was sudden and unexpected.

Dobie was born February 12, 1959, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Richard Edwin and Corrina Joanne Adams Allen.  He was a 1978 graduate of Miami Trace High School and lived most of his in Washington Court House before moving to New Holland in 1996.

He was a sergeant at the Madison Correctional Institution in London, Ohio for 18 years before his retirement in 2004.

Dobie enjoyed fishing and the Cincinnati Bengals, but his greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Chad Moore and a brother-in-law, Barry Cartwright.

Dobie is survived by his wife, the former Mary Jane Cartwright, whom he married December 15, 1978; four children, Samantha Jane Allen of Washington Court House, Rachel (Brad Binegar) Allen of New Holland, Stephanie Mitchell and her husband, Gabe, of Greenfield and Jeremy Oman of Columbus; five grandchildren, Kyle Moore, Brodie (Eboney Young) Allen, Caden Allen, Madison Allen and Kaylinn Vance; a brother, Roger “Tony” Nash and his wife, Chiquita; two sisters, Leah Jo Nash and Linda Stephens and her husband, Allen; a special sister-in-law, Theresa Unser; a host of special friends including, Benjamin Vance who is the father of Madison and Kaylinn; William Zander, Anthony “Slim” and Michele Littleton and Tom Sellers and many nieces and nephews.

As his final act of kindness, he was a participant in the Lifeline of Ohio tissue donor program and generously gave the gift of healing, sight and life to others.

To honor his wishes, cremation will be observed.  Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date in the Highlawn Cemetery in Washington Court House.

A celebration of life and a time for food and fellowship will be held at the family home, 29 North Church Street, New Holland on Monday, May 26, 2025, starting at 2 p.m.

Ann Elizabeth Cockerill, 82, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Sunday, May 11, 2025, at 8:37 a.m. at her home.  She had been in failing health.

Ann was born April 13, 1943, in Highland County, Ohio to Oscar M. and Evelyn Seitz Jackson.  She was a graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School in Greenfield and lived most of her life in Highland and Fayette Counties.

She had formerly worked at Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, Stage and Uhlman’s department stores and at the outlet mall.

Ann is survived by her husband, David T. Cockerill whom she married February 14, 1966; three children, David Charles “Chuck” Cockerill, Craig Cockerill and his wife, Lorraine, and Teresa Baird and her husband, David, all of Washington Court House; four grandchildren, Cassie Baird, Bryce Baird, Nathan Cockerill and Jordann Cockerill and two sisters, Helen Palmer of Washington Court House and Mary Lou Jackson of Columbus.

To honor her wishes, cremation will take place.
