Rachel Susan “Susie” Noble, 80, of New Holland, Ohio died Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 3:30 a.m. at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe where she had been a patient since November 16.

Susie was born March 5, 1942, in Circleville, Ohio to John and Mary Stevenson Duvall. She was a 1960 graduate of Circleville High School and lived most of her life in Williamsport and New Holland.

Before her retirement, she was activities director at the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Susie was a member of the New Holland Church of Christ in Christian Union; the New Holland Lions Club; the Red Hat Society and Fayette County Commission on Aging.  She enjoyed line dancing, flowers and gardening.  She loved taking care of people, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On September 14, 1962, she married Martin Daniel “Marty” Noble.  He preceded her in death on June 3, 2006.  She was also preceded by four brothers, John, Bill, Tom and Don Duvall.

Susie is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Melinda Noble of Greenfield, Jeff and Michelle Noble of Washington Court House and Chris and Michelle Noble of New Holland; eight grandchildren, Miranda (Ronald) Morris, Ashely Noble, Matthew Noble, Meloney George, Becka Baxla, Garritt George, Jessa Baxla and Keara Baxla; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Brenda Duvall of Tyler Texas; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Duvall of Grove City and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with the Rev. Larry Doss, minister at New Holland Church of Christ in Christian Union, officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.

Wesley Cox, 86, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 3:22 a.m. at Court House Manor Assisted Living where he had been residing since February.

Wesley was born August 21, 1936, in Chillicothe, Ohio to Myrtle and John Wesley McDaniel.  Following the death of Wesley’s mother during childbirth, he was adopted as a newborn by Jasper William and Sarah Elizabeth Hamman Cox.  He was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School and lived most of his life in this community.

During high school he began working at Wades Shoes.  He managed the store for many years until its closing in 1982.  He then opened his own shoe store inside Uhlman’s Department Store.  After a few years, Uhlman’s purchased his store and he became the manager at Uhlman’s.  He finished his career with Stage Department Stores, who bought out Uhlman’s, and continued to manage the store until his retirement in 2001.

Wes was a 43-year member of New Holland Lodge F. & A. M. where he served as lodge secretary for seven years.  He was a member and past president of the Washington Lions Club and always enjoyed participating in the Lions Club Variety Shows.  His favorite part was playing Charlie Chaplin, which he performed more than once, and he also performed several singing parts in the shows. He served 32 years as a member of the Fayette County Charitable Association and was a lifetime member of the Angler’s Club where he enjoyed fishing and just relaxing and reading at the pond.  Wes was a sports fan who enjoyed football, baseball, college basketball and F1 racing.  He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan from the time he was a kid listening to games on the radio.  He very much enjoyed cooking, his dogs, the local Farmer’s Market, his Courtview Coffee Club, listening to music and his family. Vacationing in the Outer Banks every year was something he always looked forward to and enjoyed very much.

He is survived by his wife, the former V. Ann Dews; four children, Joseph Alan Cox and his wife, Janice, of Alpharetta, GA; Jennifer Ann Heiny and her husband, Mark, of Washington Court House, Jonathan Dews Cox and his wife, Cindy, of Jeffersonville and Jason Daniel Cox and his wife, Jennifer, of Mason, OH; eight grandchildren, Morgan Cox, Mallory (Ethan) Cunningham, Molly (Terry) Gruber, Jake Pollock, Alicia (Nathan) Dill, Logan, Nathan and Katie Cox; six great grandchildren, Macy, Megan, Paislee, Roman, Macklin, Jovie and a great great granddaughter, Daisy.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation will be observed.

A memorial service, followed by burial in Washington Cemetery, will be held at a later date.

Joyce Elaine Conrad, 79, of New Holland, Ohio passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 5:50 p.m. after a two-week hospitalization.

Joyce was born December 31, 1942, in Frankfort, Ohio to Carl Franklin and Ruth Butler Kruger.  She was a 1960 graduate of Frankfort High School and lived her entire life in Ross and Pickaway Counties.

She had formerly worked at the Citizen’s Bank in Chillicothe and later assisted with 3 Moms Catering, but her life’s work was caring for her family and assisting with the family dairy farm.

Joyce was a faithful member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church and was active with the United Methodist Women.  She was also a member of the National Farmers Organization and was a longtime poll worker.

Joyce loved to cook and bake for her family and others, but her ultimate joy was her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Taylor Elaine Baesman and a brother, Edwin Kruger.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Donald L. Conrad, whom she married March 21, 1964, three children, Karen Baesman and her husband, Rod, of Powell, Ohio; Greg Conrad and his wife, Judy, of New Holland and Becky Conrad Davenport and her husband, Monte, of Athens, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Kelsey (Aaron) Crookes, Jack (Alejandra) Baesman, Nick Baesman, Mikayla (Cameron) Gibbs, Macy (Kent) Maki, Macrae Conrad, Maylon Conrad, Luke Davenport and Shelby Davenport; a great grandson, Emmett Gibbs; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Rosemary Kruger of Bellbrook, Ohio; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kate Kruger of Frankfort, Ohio, Carole Siegrist and her husband, Dr. Carl Siegrist, of Cincinnati; Edward  Conrad of Houston, Texas and Linda Scott and her husband, Thomas, of Beaver Falls, PA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Atlanta United Methodist Church with the Rev. Serena Wolfe, pastor at the church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.

Charles Allen Pendergraft, 56, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Monday, November 14, 2022, at his home.

Chuck was born January 25, 1966, in Ironton, Ohio to Charles Henry and Elizabeth “Libby” Allen Pendergraft.  He was a 1984 graduate of Miami Trace High School and life most of his life in this community.

He was a 19-year employee of American Showa in Blanchester where he worked in facilities maintenance.

Chuck was preceded in death by his mother; his maternal grandparents, Betty and Ted Wilburn; paternal grandparents, Charles and Malinda Pendergraft and a stepson, Jason Howland.

He is survived by his wife, the former Kimberlyn Jo Howland; a son, Nathan Pendergraft and his friend, Stephanie Goodrich, of Greenfield; two grandchildren, Austyn and Nolan Pendergraft; a stepson, Donald Howland of Washington Court House; his father, Charles H. Pendergraft of Middletown; a brother, Glenn Pendergraft of Washington Court House; a half-sister, Charlas Abamson of Middletown and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Robert Gray Stauffer, 94, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 12:42 p.m. at Carriage Court Assisted Living of Washington Court House where he had been residing the past year.

Bob was born September 2,1928, at Sabina in Clinton County, Ohio to Wayne and Ruth Gray Stauffer.  He was a graduate of Sabina High School and lived most of his life in Sabina and Washington Court House.

He formerly was a warden at the London Prison Farm and had worked at National Cash Register and Pennington Bread in Washington Court House.  He had also owned and operated a carpet cleaning business.  Bob was a World War II Army veteran.

On February 21, 1948, he married the former Irene Provost.  She preceded him in death June 12, 2008. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Warren and George Roger Stauffer; a sister, Barbara Stauffer; two brothers-in-law, Joseph F. and Robert E. Provost and sisters-in-law, Janet Stauffer, Dorothy, Ruth and Carolyn Provost.

He is survived by a brother, Ronnie D. Stauffer and his wife, Judie, of Versailles, Ohio, sisters-in-law, Emma Stauffer of Kettering and Carol Dunn and her husband, John, of Washington Court House; special friend, Ruth Kellis of Washington Court House and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Monday, November 14, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Bruce Stauffer, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.

Judith Elva “Julie” Dean, 52, of Sabina, Ohio died Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 3:09 p.m. at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus where she had been a patient since October 8.

Julie was born in March 24, 1969, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Robert Edwin and Sarah Patricia Shirey Dean.  She was a 1987 graduate of Washington High School and received an associate degree from Southern State Community College.

She formerly had worked 19 years at YUSA Corporation and later at McKesson Corporation.  She currently was employed by the Clinton County Community Action working in the head start program.

Julie attended the South Side Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her father on December 19, 1979; by her mother on October17, 2012, and two sisters, Sarah Leisure and Nola Dean.

Julie is survived by her longtime partner, Chris Bloch of Sabina; a son, Cameron N. Bloch of Sabina and his girlfriend, Courtney Graves; a daughter, Kelcee Bloch of Wilmington; a granddaughter, Myia Spurlock, two brothers, Mark Dean of Washington Court House and John Dean and his wife, Dena, of Indian Lake; a sister, Meg Cruea her husband, Mike, of Daytona Beach, FL; a brother-in-law, Darrell “Dink” Leisure of Williamsport; several nieces and nephews and many friends including the “Girls Gang.”

The funeral will be Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 6 p.m. at the South Side Church of Christ with Todd Maurer, connections minister at the church, officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.

Janet Ruth Bonner, 95, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 11:11 a.m. at Signature HealthCARE of Fayette County where she had been a patient since September 30.

Janet was born February 23, 1927, at Atlanta in Pickaway County, Ohio to Walter Max and Helen Graham Turner. She was a graduate of Atlanta High School and lived most of her life in this community.

She was a retired beautician.

Janet was a member of the South Side Church of Christ; had formerly been a Sunday school teacher and Girl Scout leader and loved crafting, baking and painting.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Warner (Jack), Darrell, James and Harold Turner and four sisters, Mary Parrott, Cora Michael, Joanne Medary and Helen Galloway.

Janet is survived by her husband, Edward E. Bonner whom she married February 3, 1947; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Lawrence Shaltry of Greenville, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Herbert and Luan Bonner of Canal Winchester; five grandchildren, Matthew (Amy) Shaltry, Benjamin Shaltry, Joshua Bonner, Ryan Bonner and Lara (Isaac) DeSanto; two great grandchildren, Christopher and Austin Shaltry; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Judith Turner of Columbus; a sister, Margaret Durham of California and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steven Gregory Qualls, 62, of Grove City, Ohio passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022, after a long-fought battle with cancer. He was blessed to be at home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 11, 1960, at Fayette County Memorial Hospital in Washington Court House, Ohio to Theoda (Teddy) and Beverly Crosswhite Qualls,. He was a 1979 graduate of Washington High School and lived in Washington Court House until the age of 19, then moved to Columbus, Ohio to begin his career. He was a SCA Shop Mechanic at Contract Sweepers and Equipment, where he was employed until his untimely death.

Steven was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Todd Qualls and Robert Alan Qualls; his maternal grandparents, Herbert and Pauline Crosswhite; his paternal grandparents, Roy T. and Zola Qualls; his father, Theoda (Teddy) Qualls; aunts and uncles, Theresa Jones, Raleigh and Kate Stepter, Robert and Jeannette Crosswhite, Norman Crosswhite, Herbie Crosswhite and Alberta Steward and cousins, Robbin Crosswhite, Lesley Stepter, Juan (Butchie) Steward and Tina Crosswhite.

He is survived by his mother, Beverly J. Qualls; stepmother, Lorraine Qualls; sister, Chiquita (Tony) Nash; brother, Anthony Dwayne Qualls; step-sisters, Renee and Shelly Gray; nephew, Michael Nash; nieces, MiCayla (Quantez) Claybrooks and MicKenna Nash; great nephews, Memphis and Mykhal Claybrooks; daughter by choice, Mishea Seldon; granddaughter Mari and special friends, Amy Dozier, Mark Desseau, Shannon Boswell, Bethany Maish, Kenny Crabtree, Phil Adornetto, and David Horne. He is also survived by a host of relatives and friends.

Larry Galen Funk, 72, of New Holland, Ohio died Friday, October 14, 2022, at 1:30 a.m. at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe where he had been a patient the past week.

Larry was born July 29, 1950, in New Holland to Worley Michael and Bessie Forsythe Funk.   Except for 15 years in Florida, he lived most of his life in the New Holland community.

He formerly was an auto mechanic and, for ten years, was street superintendent for the Village of New Holland.

Larry was preceded in death his wife, Sharon Kay Keeton Funk on October 11, 2015; by a son, Larry Galen Funk, Jr. on October 11, 2003; ten siblings, Worley (Doc) Funk, Jr., Virgil Funk, Donnie Funk, Neil Funk, Harley Funk, Bernice Saxour, W. Marie Knapp, Ethel Williams, Linda Smith and Robert Funk.

He is survived by two daughters, Theresa Riley and her husband, John, of Winston Salem, NC and Becky Tietboehl and boyfriend, Junior Martinez, of Royal Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Tiffany Losi, Kyle Jones, Kelsey Tietboehl, Logan Shiltz and McKenna McFadden; six great grandchildren; five  sisters, Ruby Adams, Carolyn Funk, Marilyn Hettinger, Sarah Jane Picklesimer and Phyllis McCoy; three brothers-in-law, Donald Smith, Bob Eitel and Charles Smith; a sister-in-law, Patricia Funk and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carl Grooms, 98, of Good Hope, Ohio died Friday, October 7, 2022, at 10 p.m. at his home.

Carl was born May 6, 1924, in Highland County, Ohio to Lee and Laura Nichols Grooms.  He lived most of his life in Fayette County.

Before his retirement he was a welder and had formerly worked and Coffman’s and Ritten Industries.

He served in the Army Air Corps with Company A in the 515^st Parachute Division during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Carl enjoyed watching television, particularly movies and old shows and liked farming and animals.

He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Tré; two brothers, Lester and Phillip Grooms and a sister, Daisy Mae Funk.

He is survived by his wife, the former Rinda Belle Penwell whom he married May 20, 1952; four children, Beverly Jackson and her husband, Fred, of Greenfield, Russell Grooms, Carolyn Studebaker and her husband, Tom, and Charlotte Grooms, all of Washington Court House; four grandchildren, Kristi (Chris) Richardson, Andria (Karl) Manor, Daniel Jackson and Branden Grooms; seven great-grandchildren, Jazzmyne, Dustin, Landen, Carter, Caydence, Brianna and Jackson and a brother, Kenneth Grooms of Marysville.

The funeral will be held Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Gary Dole officiating.  Burial, with complete military honors, will be in the Good Hope Cemetery.
