Betty Lou Beatty, 97 of Columbus, Ohio died Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 3:25 p.m. at Scioto Community in Columbus where she had been residing since 2020.
Betty was born January 8, 1927, in Springfield, Ohio to Dwight and Gertrude Mantz Wilcox. She was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Ohio and lived most of her life in Greenfield and Washington Court House before moving to the Columbus area.
She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and had formerly worked for Dr. Doane in Greenfield and Dr. Young in Mount Sterling.
She enjoyed all aspects of the harness racing business and had been an owner of standardbred racehorses. She was a member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association and the United States Trotting Association. She had formerly attended the First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield.
On May 5, 1952, she married Hugh Edwin Beatty. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1993. She was also preceded by a brother, Dwight Wilcox.
Betty is survived by a son, Hugh J. “Sandy” Beatty and his wife, Sandra, of Orient, Ohio; two grandchildren, Adam C. Beatty and his wife, Courtney, and Rachel (Landon Hall) Beatty; a great granddaughter, Ava Marie Taylor Hall and a brother, Richard Wilcox of Rochester, NY.
The funeral will be Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 12 Noon. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Danny Dodds officiating.. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Charles Richard Shipley, age 54, of Washington C.H., died Monday, July 22, 2024, in the emergency room at Adena Fayette Medical Center in Washington C. H. He was born November 20, 1969, in Washington C.H. the son of Grover R. and Virginia M. (Benedum) Shipley, Jr. Charles was employed with D.H.L. for more than 33 years, he had worked his way up to become Operations Supervisor. In his free time, Charles enjoyed gardening, grocery shopping, cooking, biking, fishing, hunting, and loved the great outdoors. He cherished his quiet time with his wife Cheri, and spending time with his father metal detecting. Charles was a wonderful husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheri L. (Knisley) Shipley, to whom he married October 30, 1999 in Washington C.H.; father Grover R. “Dick” Shipley, Jr. of New Holland; two sisters, Vicki and her husband David Climer, and Kimberly and her husband Dennis Bick all of Washington C.H.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gregory and Amy Knisley; mother-in-law Barbara Knisley of Washington C.H.; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Taylor, Samantha (Greg) Barbour, Nicholas Dresch, Trey Climer, Tori (Chris) Wehner, Ginna Climer, Makenna Knisley, and Addison Knisley; great nieces and nephews, Ian Taylor, Lexi Scott, Lane Scott, Leo Dresch, Aubreyann Taylor, Evelyn Dresch, Gwendolyn Wehner, and Haley Barbour; and many friends. Charles is preceded in death by his mother Virginia M. “Ginger” Shipley on May 20, 2024; and father-in-law Gary Knisley on August 27, 2023. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, at Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, Washington C.H. Kristi Lynch Ott will officiate. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a gathering immediately following the funeral service. The gathering will be held at the First Baptist Church of Washington C.H., 301 E. East Street, Washington C.H., Ohio 43160, where a meal will be provided by the New Holland United Methodist Church. All are invited and encouraged to attend for food and fellowship, and to share storied about Charles. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
