Betty Lou Beatty, 97 of Columbus, Ohio died Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 3:25 p.m. at Scioto Community in Columbus where she had been residing since 2020.

Betty was born January 8, 1927, in Springfield, Ohio to Dwight and Gertrude Mantz Wilcox.  She was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Ohio and lived most of her life in Greenfield and Washington Court House before moving to the Columbus area.

She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and had formerly worked for Dr. Doane in Greenfield and Dr. Young in Mount Sterling.

She enjoyed all aspects of the harness racing business and had been an owner of standardbred racehorses.  She was a member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association and the United States Trotting Association.  She had formerly attended the First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield.

On May 5, 1952, she married Hugh Edwin Beatty.  He preceded her in death on November 5, 1993.  She was also preceded by a brother, Dwight Wilcox.

Betty is survived by a son, Hugh J. “Sandy” Beatty and his wife, Sandra, of Orient, Ohio; two grandchildren, Adam C. Beatty and his wife, Courtney, and Rachel (Landon Hall) Beatty; a great granddaughter, Ava Marie Taylor Hall and a brother, Richard Wilcox of Rochester, NY.

The funeral will be Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 12 Noon. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Danny Dodds officiating..  Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Carol Marie (Houser) Everhart, 88, of Washington Court House, Ohio passed away Monday, August 26, 2024, at 10:38 p.m. at Court House Manor where she had been residing since 2019.

Carol was born June 6, 1936, at Frankfort in Ross County, Ohio to Percy Joseph and Ethel Marie Bethard Houser.  She attended Washington High School and lived most of her life in this community.

She was a clerk at K-Mart in Washington Court House for 16 years before her retirement in 1989.  She had also worked at Flowers by Marilee.

Carol attended the First Baptist Church and was a member and past president of the Sabina Senior Citizens.  She loved to read and work on crossword puzzles.

On July 9, 1952, she married Harold George Everhart.  He preceded her in death on June 21, 2003.  She was also preceded by her parents and an infant brother.

Carol is survived by three children, Harold G.  “Junior” Everhart of Washington Court House, Donald Joseph “Joe” Everhart and his wife, Rhonda, of Baltimore, Ohio and Pamela Oman and her husband, Steven, of St. Joseph, MO; five grandchildren, Jeremy Oman, Tony Oman, Eva Oman, Christina Eggleton and her husband, Donald, and Kevin Everhart; five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

The funeral will be Friday, August 30, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Danny Dodds officiating.  Burial will follow in the Highlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 Noon Friday until the time of the service.

Sara Elaine Anschutz, 77, of Washington Court House Ohio, passed into the universe on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 10:49 p.m. at her home, with Nelson and Corey by her side.

Elaine was born October 10, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio to the late George James and Dorothy Lucille Glass Anschutz. As a young child, she spent most of her time with her grandparents, Walter and Mary Glass in Reesville, Ohio. When she was around four years old, her family moved to Somerset, Ohio where she was active in Girl Scouts (when cookies were fifty cents a box) and the Methodist Youth Fellowship. The family moved to Madison Mills when she began sixth grade. She was active in 4-H, Methodist Youth Fellowship and various school clubs. She moved to Columbus in 1966, and back to Madison Mills in the early 90’s to be with her mother.

After graduating from Miami Trace High School in 1964, she attended Ohio University and then transferred to Columbus Business University where she earned an associate degree in business management.

She worked as an insurance agent for 20 years earning both Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and Certified Insurance Counselor designations. While working in the insurance field, she attended the Columbus School of Practical Nursing and earned her licensed practical nurse degree. She worked as a private duty and staff nurse in various facilities and as coordinator for continuing education workshops for residents and interns for the Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine. While working there, she completed coursework for a psychiatric technician certificate and human resources recruitment. She then became an independent contractor providing all levels of consulting, training, recruitment and business services. She retired in 2008.

Elaine enjoyed travel and visited many states and European countries, with a particular fondness for Switzerland. For many years she enjoyed flea/farm markets and craft shows where she made many friends with people from all over the country and world. She learned about other cultures and enjoyed conservations sometimes with neither party understanding the other’s language, but with gestures, drawing and shaking of heads, they got through it. Her favorite customers were animal people and bikers. Elaine developed, produced and marketed a popular line of culinary mixes, which she wholesaled and retailed under the name Windflower Farm. She was also an active volunteer for many years with the Fayette County Dog Shelter, which she found to be the most gratifying, heartwarming, frustrating and heart-breaking times in her life.

She is survived by her brother, Dennis James Anschutz; dear friend Nelson Prater, and family. Her beloved cat yum-yum, as well as many cousins and a host of friends.

As she wished, there will be direct cremation with no visitation or service.

Any memorial remembrances may be in the form of a donation of time or money to the Fayette County Dog Shelter, 1550 Robinson Road, Washington Court House Ohio 43160.

Jerry Lee Stewart, 79, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 3:44 p.m. at his home.

Jerry was born May 3, 1945, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Kenneth Wesley and Gladys Myrtle Holley Stewart.  He was a lifelong resident of this community.

Before his retirement, he was an industrial cleaner for Sunshine Laundry for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James E. Stewart and Kenneth W. Stewart, Jr. and a sister, Shirley Runyon.

Jerry, who was never married, is survived by two brothers, Donald Stewart and his wife, Maxine, of Florida and Robert Stewart of Texas; two sisters Linda Merritt who travels the country and Barbara Sue and Jerry Brandel of TN and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be observed.  Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in the Washington Cemetery under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

Gary Wayne Pate, 68, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday August 14, 2024, at 11:58 a.m. at the Crestwood Ridge Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hillsboro where he had been residing since June 5, 2024.

Gary was born November 12, 1955, in Kanawha County, WV, the son of Charles and Virginia Lovejoy Pate.  He lived most of his life in Florida.  He moved to Washington Court House two years ago from North Dakota.

Before his retirement, he was a detailer at a car dealership in Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twelve siblings.

He is survived by his children, Wayne Woodruff of Texas and Melinda Hill of Arkansas; several grandchildren, including Michael King of Washington Court House. He is also survived by two brothers, Jerry Harrison of Washington Court House and Kenny Harrison and his wife, Esther, of St. Albans, WV: his significant other, Connie Arledge of Washington Court House; his former wife, Jessie King of Jacksonville, FL and numerous nieces and nephews, including Daniel Withrow, Jerry Harrison, II, Brandon Scott Harrison, Shannon Jordan and Melaine Kovac..

In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place and there will be visitation or service.

Richard Sherrill Waters, Jr., of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 11:09 a.m. at his residence after losing a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born October 19, 1935, in Fayette County, Ohio to Richard Sherrill and Marjorie Marie Minshall Waters. He was a graduate of Washington Senior High School and a member of the storied 1952 Undefeated Blue Lion football team. He was a lifelong resident of this community and was the owner and operator of Tower Mobile Home Park.

Richard attended The Gathering Place Church.

On May 5, 1956, he married the former Toni Marie Weatherly. Toni preceded him in death on March 31, 2024. He was also preceded by a son, Richard Sherrill Waters, III on July 23, 1963; by a sister, Rebecca Beam and her husband, Malcolm; a brother-in-law, Rodney Acton and a sister-in-law, Mila Schlichter.

He is survived by three children, Stephen Waters and his wife, Catherine, of Washington Court House, Tina Harris and her husband, Matt, of Sarasota, Fl and Jason Waters and his wife, Mandy, of Washington Court House; five grandchildren, Nathan (Dalanee) Waters, Krista Aills Whitt, Jacob (Mersades) Waters, Josh Waters and Jonah Waters; five great grandchildren, Maycee and Josiah Whitt, Lindsy (Lyle) Sweeney, Riley and Addie Waters; two great great grandchildren, Nora and Sloan Sweeney; two sisters, Ann Wead of Louisville, Ky and Mary Acton of Washington Court House.

A special thank you goes out to Adena Hospice (Jamie) and caregiver Margo (Mango) from Richard’s family.

A private graveside service will be held for the family, at a date to be determined, in the Washington Cemetery with Pastor John Pfeifer, officiating.  Burial will be under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

Nancy Beth Cox, 81, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 4:54 a.m. at the Laurels of West Columbus where she had been residing the past 11 months.

Nancy was born February 27, 1943, in Highland County, Ohio to Glenn and Esther Mae Smalley Roberts.  She was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School and then the Nationwide Beauty Academy in Columbus.  Except for several years in Columbus, she lived most of her life in this community.

She was a clerk in the Franklin County Auditor’s Office for 25 years before her retirement on October 31, 2014.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lewis Cox on May 14, 2002; a son, Kevin Carl McCoy on September 26, 1995; the father of her children, Ronald L. McCoy on January 24, 2017, and a sister-in-law, Nancy Roberts on March 21, 2022.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa L. and Steve Bailey and Gina and Trent Shaw, all of Washington Court House; six grandchildren, Christopher James (C.J.) McCoy and his wife, Lacy, Carlee McCoy, Kelly Kohli and her husband, Jed, Brad Shaw and his wife, Carrie, Casey Shaw and his wife, Loren, and Derek Shaw and his wife, Cori; nine great grandchildren, Gunner, Harrison and Nash Kohli, Bryar, Hudson, Gavin, Greyson and Parker Shaw and Luke Packard; a brother, Martin Roberts and a niece, Amanda Deem, both of Columbus.

The funeral will be Monday, August 12, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with the Rev. Michael Hodge, pastor at the Walnut Hill Church of Christ in Christian Union, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

Patty Ann Boldman, 88, of Springfield, Ohio, died Friday, August 2, 2024, at a retirement community in Columbus where she had been staying for the past two months.

Patty was born July 14, 1936, in Bloomingburg, Ohio to Charles Steven “Jim” and Ruth Armelda Sexten Noble. She was a graduate of Bloomingburg High School. On September 27, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Ted D. G. Boldman. They moved from Washington Court House to Springfield, Ohio, in 1965.

She was formerly a banker with Huntington National Bank, and a proud wife and mother of two daughters, who took joy in maintaining a loving home for her family.

Patty was a member of the Bloomingburg United Methodist Church and enjoyed decorating, floral design, reading cookbooks, and spending time with friends and family. Those who provided care for her remembered her fondly for her kindness, warmth, and playful nature that she kept. She was known to express her gratitude and appreciation for those who surrounded her.

She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away on February 26, 2016.  She was also preceded by her parents; a brother, Bud Sexten and two sisters, Janet Nadine Emrick and Norma Jean Dennis. She is also preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Lucille Allison and Violet Rosalie Boldman, and five brothers-in-law, Gerald Ellis Boldman, Johnny Boldman, Ora J. Boldman, Robert Boldman, and William Boldman.

Patty is survived by two loving daughters, Robin Boldman Trevas and her husband, Dan, and Lori Boldman, all of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Pauline “Polly” Stevens of Indiana and a brother-in-law, Thomas Boldman of Springfield, and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Danny Dodds officiating.  Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

Ruth Ann Duncan, age 76, of Cedarville, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Miami Valley Medical Center in Dayton.

She was born July 31, 1947, in Fayette County, Ohio to Boyd and Helen (Alltop) Kearns.

Ruth Ann had been a hairdresser for many years, most recently with Take 2 Hair Studio in Washington Court House where she had worked until retiring.

She had served as secretary for the ladies auxiliary at the Washington Court House Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #423.  Ruth Ann enjoyed playing cards, and loved spending time with her family.

Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Duncan; mother, Helen Alltop; step-father Boyd Kearns and a brother Danny Kearns.

She is survived by six children, Twila Powell of Florida, Gene (Lisa) Duncan of Washington Court House, Millie (Randy) Bock of Washington Court House, Tony (Melissa) Duncan of Washington Court House, Nicole Duncan of Wahington Court House, and Jamie (Brenda) Duncan of Circleville; 11 grandchildren, Ty Bock, Trey Bock, Adam (April) Havens, Amanda Havens, Courtney Havens, Bethany Havens, Hunter Smith, Jessica (Rene) Canales, Kayla Duncan, Ryan Duncan, and Megan (Hadin) Coy; 16 great grandchildren, Garrett, Andrew, Aubree, Kyler, Greyson, Bryleigh, Brayden, Elleanna, Elijah, Jaron, Zaiden, Emmalee, Mallory, Leeah, Anthony, and Brandon; siblings, Sonny (Tina) Kearns of Florida, Becky (Chuck) Holloway of Washington Court House, and Sheila Simpson of West Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many great friends including Randy Perry and Sharon Anthony.

A service by the Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary  will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House .  The funeral will immediately follow with Joy Stanforth, associate pastor at Heritage Memorial Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Range Township Cemetery, Midway, Ohio.

Visitation will be held Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

There will be a gathering for family and friends in the back room of the Washington Court House Eagles, 320 Sycamore Street Washington Court House.

Charles Richard Shipley, age 54, of Washington C.H., died Monday, July 22, 2024, in the emergency room at Adena Fayette Medical Center in Washington C. H. He was born November 20, 1969, in Washington C.H. the son of Grover R. and Virginia M. (Benedum) Shipley, Jr. Charles was employed with D.H.L. for more than 33 years, he had worked his way up to become Operations Supervisor. In his free time, Charles enjoyed gardening, grocery shopping, cooking, biking, fishing, hunting, and loved the great outdoors. He cherished his quiet time with his wife Cheri, and spending time with his father metal detecting. Charles was a wonderful husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheri L. (Knisley) Shipley, to whom he married October 30, 1999 in Washington C.H.; father Grover R. “Dick” Shipley, Jr. of New Holland; two sisters, Vicki and her husband David Climer, and Kimberly and her husband Dennis Bick all of Washington C.H.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gregory and Amy Knisley; mother-in-law Barbara Knisley of Washington C.H.; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Taylor, Samantha (Greg) Barbour, Nicholas Dresch, Trey Climer, Tori (Chris) Wehner, Ginna Climer, Makenna Knisley, and Addison Knisley; great nieces and nephews, Ian Taylor, Lexi Scott, Lane Scott, Leo Dresch, Aubreyann Taylor, Evelyn Dresch, Gwendolyn Wehner, and Haley Barbour; and many friends. Charles is preceded in death by his mother Virginia M. “Ginger” Shipley on May 20, 2024; and father-in-law Gary Knisley on August 27, 2023. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, at Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, Washington C.H. Kristi Lynch Ott will officiate. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a gathering immediately following the funeral service. The gathering will be held at the First Baptist Church of Washington C.H., 301 E. East Street, Washington C.H., Ohio 43160, where a meal will be provided by the New Holland United Methodist Church. All are invited and encouraged to attend for food and fellowship, and to share storied about Charles. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
