Carl Grooms, 98, of Good Hope, Ohio died Friday, October 7, 2022, at 10 p.m. at his home.

Carl was born May 6, 1924, in Highland County, Ohio to Lee and Laura Nichols Grooms.  He lived most of his life in Fayette County.

Before his retirement he was a welder and had formerly worked and Coffman’s and Ritten Industries.

He served in the Army Air Corps with Company A in the 515st Parachute Division during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Carl enjoyed watching television, particularly movies and old shows and liked farming and animals.

He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Tré; two brothers, Lester and Phillip Grooms and a sister, Daisy Mae Funk.

He is survived by his wife, the former Rinda Belle Penwell whom he married May 20, 1952; four children, Beverly Jackson and her husband, Fred, of Greenfield, Russell Grooms, Carolyn Studebaker and her husband, Tom, and Charlotte Grooms, all of Washington Court House; four grandchildren, Kristi (Chris) Richardson, Andria (Karl) Manor, Daniel Jackson and Branden Grooms; seven great-grandchildren, Jazzmyne, Dustin, Landen, Carter, Caydence, Brianna and Jackson and a brother, Kenneth Grooms of Marysville.

The funeral will be held Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Gary Dole officiating.  Burial, with complete military honors, will be in the Good Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
