Roger Kirkpatrick

Ruth Ann Duncan, age 76, of Cedarville, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Miami Valley Medical Center in Dayton.

She was born July 31, 1947, in Fayette County, Ohio to Boyd and Helen (Alltop) Kearns.

Ruth Ann had been a hairdresser for many years, most recently with Take 2 Hair Studio in Washington Court House where she had worked until retiring.

She had served as secretary for the ladies auxiliary at the Washington Court House Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #423.  Ruth Ann enjoyed playing cards, and loved spending time with her family.

Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Duncan; mother, Helen Alltop; step-father Boyd Kearns and a brother Danny Kearns.

She is survived by six children, Twila Powell of Florida, Gene (Lisa) Duncan of Washington Court House, Millie (Randy) Bock of Washington Court House, Tony (Melissa) Duncan of Washington Court House, Nicole Duncan of Wahington Court House, and Jamie (Brenda) Duncan of Circleville; 11 grandchildren, Ty Bock, Trey Bock, Adam (April) Havens, Amanda Havens, Courtney Havens, Bethany Havens, Hunter Smith, Jessica (Rene) Canales, Kayla Duncan, Ryan Duncan, and Megan (Hadin) Coy; 16 great grandchildren, Garrett, Andrew, Aubree, Kyler, Greyson, Bryleigh, Brayden, Elleanna, Elijah, Jaron, Zaiden, Emmalee, Mallory, Leeah, Anthony, and Brandon; siblings, Sonny (Tina) Kearns of Florida, Becky (Chuck) Holloway of Washington Court House, and Sheila Simpson of West Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many great friends including Randy Perry and Sharon Anthony.

A service by the Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary  will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2024, at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House .  The funeral will immediately follow with Joy Stanforth, associate pastor at Heritage Memorial Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Range Township Cemetery, Midway, Ohio.

Visitation will be held Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

There will be a gathering for family and friends in the back room of the Washington Court House Eagles, 320 Sycamore Street Washington Court House.

Charles Richard Shipley, age 54, of Washington C.H., died Monday, July 22, 2024, in the emergency room at Adena Fayette Medical Center in Washington C. H. He was born November 20, 1969, in Washington C.H. the son of Grover R. and Virginia M. (Benedum) Shipley, Jr. Charles was employed with D.H.L. for more than 33 years, he had worked his way up to become Operations Supervisor. In his free time, Charles enjoyed gardening, grocery shopping, cooking, biking, fishing, hunting, and loved the great outdoors. He cherished his quiet time with his wife Cheri, and spending time with his father metal detecting. Charles was a wonderful husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheri L. (Knisley) Shipley, to whom he married October 30, 1999 in Washington C.H.; father Grover R. “Dick” Shipley, Jr. of New Holland; two sisters, Vicki and her husband David Climer, and Kimberly and her husband Dennis Bick all of Washington C.H.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gregory and Amy Knisley; mother-in-law Barbara Knisley of Washington C.H.; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Taylor, Samantha (Greg) Barbour, Nicholas Dresch, Trey Climer, Tori (Chris) Wehner, Ginna Climer, Makenna Knisley, and Addison Knisley; great nieces and nephews, Ian Taylor, Lexi Scott, Lane Scott, Leo Dresch, Aubreyann Taylor, Evelyn Dresch, Gwendolyn Wehner, and Haley Barbour; and many friends. Charles is preceded in death by his mother Virginia M. “Ginger” Shipley on May 20, 2024; and father-in-law Gary Knisley on August 27, 2023. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, at Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, Washington C.H. Kristi Lynch Ott will officiate. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a gathering immediately following the funeral service. The gathering will be held at the First Baptist Church of Washington C.H., 301 E. East Street, Washington C.H., Ohio 43160, where a meal will be provided by the New Holland United Methodist Church. All are invited and encouraged to attend for food and fellowship, and to share storied about Charles. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.

Coy Lee McKinley, II, of Columbus, Ohio died Friday, July 12, 2024, at 1:52 p.m. at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he had been a patient since June 15.

Coy was born July 16, 1972, in Haltom City, Texas to Coy Lee and Violet Faye (Vickie) Dickenson McKinley.   He graduated from high school in North Richland Hills, Texas and moved to Columbus in 2012, from Texas.

He formerly was an installer and repairer of home and business security systems.

Coy enjoyed playing pool.

He was preceded in death by his father on March 16, 2012.

Coy is survived by his mother, Violet (Vickie) Wedlake of Atlanta, Ohio; siblings, Kimberly (Kenneth) Hunt of New Holland, David (Corey) Rasberry of Plain City, Ohio Kay-Dee (Shane Keys) Wedlake of Grove City, Patti Swadley of Columbus and Kellie Wedlake of Atlanta, Ohio.  Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 4-6 p.m.  Cremation will follow the visitation.

Linda Kay Laymon Hynes, 83, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 5:20 p.m. at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe where she had been a patient since Saturday.

Linda was born October 20, 1940, in Washington Court House to Harold R. and Ruth Elizabeth McGuire Laymon.  She was a graduate of Washington High School and lived most of her life in this community.

On January 10, 1962, she married Loren Drexel Hynes, Jr.  He preceded her in death on July 24, 2007.

Linda is survived by two sons, LD Hynes and his wife, Tammy Mayer Hynes, and Garth Hynes, all of Washington Court House; four grandchildren, Kristin (Kevin) Knisley, Jake Hynes, Taylor (Dalton) Dean and Katherine Hynes; a step grandson, Camron (Jennifer) Lindsey of North Carolina; five great grandchildren, Sarah, Conner, Zayne, Rylee and Jackson and a brother and sister-in-law, Harold D. (Sonny) and Jo Laymon of Washington Court House.

There will be no visitation or service.

David Lee Laytart, Sr., 68, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Monday, July 1, 2024, at 11:40 a.m. at his home.  He had been in failing health since October, 2023.

David was born June 16, 1956, in Washington Court House to Lang and Vivian Livingood Laytart.  He was a 1974 graduate of Washington High School and a lifelong resident of this community.

Before his retirement, he was a printer for Rotary Stock Forms in Greenfield and later Hillsboro.  He had also worked at Home Depot.  Following his retirement, he was a security guard at the Carnegie Public Library in Washington Court House.

He was a proud volunteer firefighter for the City of Washington Court House for 32 years.  David was an avid bicyclist and he also sold and repaired bicycles.  He formerly had been a foster parent.

David was a member and former deacon at the South Side Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death his father; mother and stepfather, Vivian and Bob Kibler; a sister, Nancy Howland; a son-in-law, Sean Groves; a brother-in-law, Ron Gravett and his best friend, Rollo Marchant.

David is survived by his wife, the former Vicki Ann Hayner whom he married February 16, 1975; four children, David (Lisa Sweeney) Laytart, Jr., Tammy Groves, Nate (Hanna Smith) Laytart, all of Washington Court House and Katrina (Jay Harper) Bowman of Logan, Ohio; two grandchildren, Allison (Cody) Ferrell and Bryson (Sasha) Laytart; a great granddaughter, Winnie, to be born in September, a brother and sister-in-law,  Benny and Shirley Laytart, of Washington Court House; a sister, Dr. Linda Gravett of Cincinnati and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral, followed by the firefighter’s last call and bell ceremony, will be Friday, July 5, 2024. at 1 p.m. at the South Side Church of Christ with Todd Maurer, involvement minister at the church, officiating.  Cremation will follow the services.

Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the service.

Timothy John Van Horn, 61, of New Holland, Ohio died Thursday, June 27, 2024, at his home.  His death was sudden and unexpected.

Tim was born July 20, 1962, in Grove City, Ohio to Samuel and Arlene Ruetty Van Horn.  He moved to New Holland 20 years ago from Grove City.

He currently was co-owner of Lexen Iron Workz in Bloomingburg.  He formerly had been owner of Bloomingburg Spring and Wire Form and Springbok in Bloomingburg which made weight equipment for professional football teams and weightlifters.

He was a power lifter for over ten years and took great pleasure in his Mopar collection.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Van Horn.

He is survived by his wife, the former Peggy Jean Weeter, whom he married March 21, 2017; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Shawn Hall of Columbus; a son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Emily Moore of New Holland; two grandchildren, Gavin Dardin and Presley Moore; a brother, Daniel Van Horn of the Czech Republic; several nieces and nephews; his longtime friend, Jimmy Fetters; numerous special friends and his canine buddies, Tanker and Ashley.

The funeral will be Monday, July 1, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.  Burial will follow in the Concord Cemetery in Grove City.

Shirley Ruth (Kimmey) Lux, 77, of Washington Court House and Fayette County, Ohio died Tuesday, June 25, 2024, after a brief illness.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 50 years, Joe R. Lux; children, Brian D. Lux (Maggie) and the Rev. Holly Anne Lux-Sullivan (Kevin Sullivan); treasured grandson, Andrew; nephew, Rick Kimmey (Pam); her circle of retired-teacher friends; her dog, Olaf and countless others whose lives she enriched with her kindness, humor, and wisdom.

She was born April 27, 1947, in Washington Court House, Ohio of Delbert Rowe and Vera Louise Glass Kimmey, both deceased. She grew up in Staunton with her older brother, Bob, also deceased. She was the co-valedictorian of Miami Trace High School’s Class of 1965. She graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in education and later earned her master’s degree. At a time when female doctors were the exception rather than the norm, Shirley delighted in saying she wanted to earn her doctorate so she and Joe could be introduced as “Dr. and Mr. Lux.”

A beloved teacher for decades, Shirley taught at Miami Trace High School, as well as teaching night classes in ESL and GED prep for adults. Shirley’s mix of whimsy and brains was unparalleled, and she lived with a sense of wonder and joy her family and friends marveled at. She loved puzzles and word games and was a prolific maker of beaded jewelry. In her final years, when asked how she was, her answer was usually, “Fabu-Lux!”

Shirley’s love of dogs was evidence of her generous spirit. She adored them indiscriminately, not limiting herself to a particular breed or size: If it was a dog, Shirley loved it. The litany of dogs who shared her home is long, beginning with her beloved poodle, Suzie in childhood and ending with Olaf, who already misses her.

Shirley could play naïve with the best of them, but only until she’d made you hoist yourself by your own petard. Her always-innocent expression was a thin façade that hid her wicked intellect and ornery sense of humor. Even in her last days, she was suggesting pranks to play on her unsuspecting children-in-law.

A celebration of life will be held later.

Debra Lynn Saxton, 69, of Leesburg, Ohio died Monday, June 24, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. at her home.

Debra was born July 8, 1954, in Pickaway County, Ohio to Royal Edward and Oney A. Short Kearns.  She lived most of her life in Washington Court House before moving to Leesburg 20 years ago.

She had worked at the Eastgate Walmart for 30 years before her retirement in 2021.

Debra enjoyed traveling, camping and wine tasting.

On August 16,1972, she married Emery S. Saxton.  He preceded her in death on April 26,1999.  She was also preceded by a brother, Ronald L. Kearns on September 5, 1988, and her step-father, Wallace (Doug) Douglas on September 24, 1988.

She is survived by three children, Michelle Saxton of Marathon, OH, Shawn (Lee Ann Whited) Saxton of Felicity, OH and Jaime Saxton of Leesburg; two grandsons, Ronnie (Cassie) Younker and Sebastion Saxton; a great grandson, Emery Younker; a brother, Royal (Buzz) Kearns, Jr. of Washington Court House; two sisters, Billie Jo Lewis of Liberty, IN and Wanda (Eric) Rueppel of Washington Court House and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Friday, June 28, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.  Following cremation, burial of the cremains will be in the New Hollands Cemetery.

Kimberly Sue Tignor, 63, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Monday, June 24, 2024, at her home.

Kim was born August 31, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio to Thomas Franklin and Barbara Jean Cook.  She was a 1978 graduate of Westfall High School and lived most of her life in Orient, Ohio before moving to Washington Court House in 2014.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Michael Krutulis.

Kim is survived by a sister, Pamela L. Krutulis of Washington Court House; a niece, Ashton (Brandon) Woolever of Washington Court House; a nephew, Matthew (Alyssa) Krutulis of Grove City and a great nephew, Carson Woolever.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no visitation or services.

A memorial service for Ronald Terry Wickensimer, 87, of Sebring, FL will be held Friday, June 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House, with his brother, Mell Wickensimer, officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Ronald, who passed away on April 7, 2024, in Sebring, FL, was born on April 6, 1937, in Chillicothe, Ohio, the son of Howard Rex and Mary Louise (Baughman) Wickensimer.

Ronald is survived by his devoted wife, Betty G Wickensimer; his cherished children, Vicki, Bradley, Lisa, Michael, and Robby. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Marsha (Jeff) Nevils. Ronald is remembered by his supportive brothers, Mell of Ohio and Paul of South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, stepson (Bradford Gibbs), and sister-in-law (Marty Wickensimer).

Ronald’s career was a testament to his hard work and dedication. He began in printing at NCR in Ohio and continued to excel at Webcraft Printing in New Jersey, founded American Inline Graphs Company in Indiana, and finished his career at R.R. Donnelley company in Chicago. Throughout his career, he held various positions such as foreman, general foreman, plant manager, and corporate leader in the commercial printing industry.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ronald was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of several organizations, including VFW Post 69 and Good Ole Boys (GOB). He was a longtime volunteer for the Sebring 12 Hour Race, a member of First Methodist of Coral Springs and attended Grace Bible Church in Sebring. His dedication to these groups reflected his strong sense of responsibility, discipline, motivation, integrity, innovation, and his deep faith.

Ronald’s hobbies and interests were intertwined with his commitment to his church and career. He found joy in being a church member, building relationships with his church family, and pursuing his career goals with a godly mindset.

A proud veteran, Ronald served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1959. In recognition of his service, he was named a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky in 1990.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and community involvement that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Ronald Terry Wickensimer’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, faith, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
