Virginia Dare Woods, 93, of Washington Court House, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 9:30 p.m. at the Copper Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had been admitted earlier in the day while under the care of Heartland Hospice.

Virgina was born July 18, 1933, in New Holland, Ohio, during the depression, to Virgil Ellis and Ruth Hulett Dundon.  She was a 1951 graduate of New Holland High School where she was class salutatorian.   She spent the next 25 years of her life as a farm wife and raising her three children.  She later worked for 30 years at Nationwide Insurance in Columbus Ohio as a senior associate.  She retired in 2002.

She was a member of WCH Grace Methodist Church and had formerly been a member of the Madison Mills United Methodist Church for 20 years where she was a Sunday school teacher.  She was a 25-year member of Jefferson Chapter #300 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Jeffersonville.

Virginia loved to dance and spent decades dancing with the Jimmy and Mary Rawlins Dance Studio in Columbus and also taught dancing at the studio.  She was an avid quilter and was a member of Goodtime Quilters in Circleville as well as other quilting clubs.  She was an expert seamstress, making all types of clothing, and had been a 4-H advisor for many years.

She was preceded in death by her past husband, James L. Woods, Sr.  on June 9, 2018, her parents; two brothers, Harold (Margaret) Dundon and Warren (Opal) Dundon and two sisters, Helen Cline and Martha (Garrison) Irvin.

She is survived by three children, James L. Woods, Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Gahanna, Cherie Del Ponte and her husband, Gerard, of Washington Court House, and Betty Hoppes and her husband, Mark, of Jeffersonville; six grandchildren, Katherine (John) Thomas, Monica Woods, Jason (Jessie) Del Ponte, Amanda (Tyler) Williams, Sarah (Chris) Hoppes-Rizzo and Zach Hoppes; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House, Ohio with the Rev. Matt Brookes, pastor at WCH Grace Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Virginia may be remembered by planting a tree in her honor.
