Sandra S. Sowash, 75, of Washington Court House, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord at 11:14 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe while surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born July 15, 1949, in Crestline, Ohio to the late Harry E. and Mary Ellen Bauer.
Sandy is survived by the love of her life, William L. Sowash, whom she married on August 19, 1972; by a daughter, Gina R. (Heidi) Smith, of Washington Court House; a son, Jared B. (Amanda) Sowash, of Crestline, Ohio, two grandsons, Taye and Tylan Smith and two granddaughters, Avalyn and Ainslee Sowash. She is also survived by a sister, Brenda (Michael) Turinsky, two sisters-in-law, Lisa Bauer and Charlotte Wilson, and a brother-in-law, Robert (Diana) Sowash.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bradley Obenour Bauer.
Sandy was a 1967 graduate of Crestline High School in Crestline, Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and a Master of Education degree from Xavier University.
In 2006, Sandy retired after 35 years of service, in the Miami Trace School system. In her tenure there, she taught health and physical education, was a high school guidance counselor and coached several girls’ sports teams.
Sandy was a social butterfly and enjoyed having a conversation with anyone. She was a member of WCH Grace Methodist Church, Alpha Delta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the DKG “Book Chicks” book club, Dazzling Divas Red Hat’s Society, Fayette County Commission on Aging, Senior Citizens of Fayette County and the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association.
She enjoyed playing Euchre with her senior friends, traveling, fishing and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 10 a.m. at WCH Grace Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Brookes officiating. Visitation will be held at the WCH Grace Methodist Church from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
