Velda Louise Mitchell, 87, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 3:10 p.m. at Court House Manor where she had been residing since 2020.
Velda was born April 22, 1936, at Port William in Clinton County, Ohio, to William Andrew and Clara Mae Curtis Wical. She was a 1954 graduate of Sabina High School and lived most of her life in the Staunton community in Fayette County.
She formerly was a cashier at Ev’s Fine Foods.
Velda was a member of the State Route 38 Church of Christ and enjoyed flowers, gardening and crocheting.
On January 4, 1954, she married Fredric Homer (Fred) Mitchell. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2016. She was also preceded by a grandson, Tommy Rodgers; six brothers, Lawrence, William, Herbert, Glen, Roger Dean and Robert Wical and three sisters, Mildred Williams, Mary Anna Blackburn and Edna Walls.
She is survived by four children, Jonathan H. Mitchell and his wife, Jayme, of Georgia, Vicki Lynn Mitchell, Sue Ann Burr and her husband, Bill, and Cathy Mitchell and her husband, Bill Thompson, all of Washington Court House; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Washington Cemetery with Dan Collier, minister at the State Route 38 Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
There will be no calling hours.
