Esther Zellers, 106, of Washington Court House, Ohio, died Friday, November 24, 2023, at 11:58 p.m. at her home, just 16 days away from her 107th birthday.

Esther was born December 10, 1916, in Licking Township in Fairfield County, Ohio to Ivan R. and Vera V. Hizey Poff.  She graduated from Liberty Union High School at the age of 16 and later worked at a dress shop in Baltimore, OH.

She was a farm wife and assisted her husband with his farming operations in Fairfield and Licking Counties and then in Pickaway County when they purchased a farm and moved to New Holland in 1962.  She had lived in Washington Court House since 1983.

Esther was involved in church activities throughout her life.  She was a member of WCH Grace Methodist Church and the Rebekah Circle at the church.   She formerly was a Methodist Youth Fellowship advisor.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, travelling and reading but especially enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.

On October 1, 1939, she married Derwin Zellers at Paradise Hill in Ashland County, Ohio.  He preceded her in death on April 22, 1993.  She was also preceded by two daughters, Linda Kay Waller on April 13, 2011, and Rita Yvonne Squires on July 2, 2022; by four sisters, Verna Stamm, Ruth Ety, Vietta West and Jane Poff and two sons-in-law, Johnnie Squires and Larry Waller.

Esther is survived by three daughters, Diana Kirkpatrick and her husband, Roger, of Washington Court House, Dixie Hott of New Holland and Terri Kirkpatrick and her husband, Bruce, of Washington Court House; 15 grandchildren, Greg (Paige) Squires, Mark (Cyndi) Squires, Mary Jill (Terry Hicks) Miller, Laura (Jonathan Westrich) Waller, Tamara Waller, Beth (Jay Dorsey) Waller, Julie Waller, Matt (Lisa) Waller, Brent (Sarah) Kirkpatrick, Troy (Kristen) Kirkpatrick, Eric Hott, Ria (Marc) Grubb, Mallorie (Justin Hupp) Hott, Nikki (Bryan) Sheets and Brock (Tiffeny) Kirkpatrick; 37 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at WCH Grace Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of the service.
