Vera Jane Hockenbery, 84, of Washington Court House, Ohio passed away peacefully Friday, December 28, 2018, at 12:07 p.m. while surrounded by her loving family.

Vera was born May 12, 1934, at Staunton in Fayette County, Ohio to Enzelo P. and Claudius M. Cooper Lamb.  Except for spending several winters in Florida, she lived most of her life in Washington Court House.

She had formerly worked in the catalog department at the Sears store in Washington Court House and retired in 1984, as supervisor of accounts receivable from the Sears Distribution Center in Columbus.

Her family, quilting and canning were her passions.

She was preceded in death by two infant brothers.

Vera is survived by her husband, Clyde Hockenbery whom she married February 18, 1977; children, Donald Palmer, Jr., of Washington Court House, Pamela Stapleton and her husband, Jim, of Staunton, and Teresa Streitenberger and her husband, David, of Washington Court House, Denise Butkus and her husband, Al, of Sebastian, FL, Nancy Humpheries, Annette Beam and her husband, Thomas, Robin Jones and her husband, Al, Linda Roys, all of West Jefferson, Keith Hockenbery and his wife, Kim of Sebastian, FL; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.

A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2019, at 2 p.m. at the Judy Chapel in Washington Cemetery with Pastor Jay Lucas, minister at the Grace Community Church, officiating.   Burial of the cremains will follow in the Washington Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Judy Chapel from 12 Noon Thursday until time of the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Fayette County, 222 North Oakland Avenue, Washington Court House, Ohio  43160.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

    Vera did not want anyone to feel alone, She opened her home and heart to anyone, me included. There is an empty spot in my heart. She was a best friend, cousin/sister and will be truly missed by all her friends and mostly by her devoted family
