Tommy Nick (Tom) Vrettos, 81, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at 12 Noon at St. Catherine’s Manor of Washington Court House.
Tom was born December 14, 1936, in Washington Court House, Ohio to Nick and Lula Pappas Vrettos. He was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Wilmington College in 1958. He was a lifelong resident of this community. He taught government, history and English at Wayne High School in Good Hope for four years and then taught government and history at Miami Trace High School for 33 years before retiring in 1991. Tom was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was a member and past secretary of Washington Lodge #129 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. He was an avid bowler and card player and was a fan of Ohio State University athletics, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Browns. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Vasos Bennett and a brother, Michael N. Vrettos. Tom is survived by his wife, the former Peggy Garrison whom he married June 24, 1962; three children, Vicki Gnezda and her husband, Eric, of Worthington, Michele Riley of Lewis Center and Nick Vrettos and his wife, Jody, of Waynesville; eight grandchildren, Joey and Madi Riley, Caroline and Meredith Gnezda and Dora, Lydia and Neva Vrettos and a niece, Priscilla Vasos Ralph and her husband, Jack, of Galloway, Ohio. The funeral will be Monday, July 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at the church, officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the graveside service. Friends may call at the church Sunday from 4-7 p.m. where an Elks service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
