Stanley Everett Melvin, 88, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Sunday, April 29, 2018, at 10:48 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Manor of Washington Court House where he had been residing since April 13.
Stanley was born March 24, 1930, in Washington Court House to Harland and Violet Mae Warner Melvin. He was a 1948 graduate of Washington High School and was a lifelong resident of this community.
For 35 years he co-owned and operated the Fayette Street Grocery with Vic Rhode. Following his retirement, he worked several years at Sears Heating and Cooling at the Westland Mall in Columbus where he was consistently named top salesman.
He was a member of the South Side Church of Christ where he had been an elder and sang in the men’s choir. He was a small aircraft pilot and enjoyed boating and water skiing.
On June 13, 1948, he married the former Dolores Ann Holland. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2012. He was also preceded by a granddaughter, Madison Melvin; a brother, Norman L. Melvin; a brother-in-law, Karl E. Kellenberger and a sister-in-law, Betty Holland Armbrust.
Stanley is survived by three children, Deborah M. Van Auker of Columbus, Diana Sue Correa of Tampa, FL and Robert Holland Melvin of Portland, OR; four grandchildren, Cameron (Lisa Smith) Correa, Miranda Melvin, Devon Melvin and Stone Melvin; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Kellenberger of Washington Court House; a sister-in-law, Mary Melvin of Sabina; a brother-in-law, Ronald Armbrust of Washington Court House and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at the South Side Church of Christ with Barry Pettit, minister at the church, officiating.
A private burial will be held in Washington Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
