Shirley Ruth Pope, 70, of New Holland, Ohio died Thursday, February 7, 2019, at 9:55 a.m. at her home. She had been ill since October.
Shirley was born November 20, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Clarence and Alberta Hogue Yenke. She received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Ohio University and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Xavier University.
She had formerly served with Vista in southern Ohio.
Before her retirement in 2010, she was the director of the correctional institution inspection committee for the State of Ohio prison system.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kenny Yenke.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. Pope whom she married May 21, 1976; a daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Ben Adler of Gig Harbor, WA; two grandchildren, Kailee and Braeden Adler; a brother, Roger Yenke and three sisters, Jacqueline Nead, G. Anne Spaeth and her husband, Dave, and Kimberly Long and her husband, Chuck, all of Cincinnati.
In keeping with her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Fayette County, 222 North Oakland Avenue, Washington Court House, Ohio 43160.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

I am so sorry to hear about Shirley ‘s death. She seemed so kind and friendly wheneyi saw her.
She didn’t have much time to prepare for this but maybe it is best that it was short. Just hate this for you.
I am so sorry to read that Shirley Pope has passed on. What a marvelous lady. My sincere condolences go out to Ron. I am shocked. May Shirley Rest In Peace.
