Ruth C. Worrell, 96, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 5:20 a.m. at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Washington Court House where she had been residing since August 28, 2019.
She was born November 28, 1924, in Fayette County, Ohio to Trustin and Rose Shepherd Allen and was a lifelong resident of this community.
Ruth formerly worked at National Cash Register in Washington Court House and other local factories. During World War II, she was a welder at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.
She was a member of The Church of Christ, Scientist and was treasurer for eight years at the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Washington Court House. She was a longtime member of the auxiliaries of Paul H. Hughey Post #25 of the American Legion and O.E. Hardway Post #3762 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was also a member of the Fayette County Commission on Aging and loved to travel.
On April 1, 1950, she married James Franklin Worrell. He preceded her in death on May 11, 2007. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Franklin D’Oench on May 11, 2006, and five siblings, James Gentry, Thurman Gentry, George Allen, Jenny Allen and Gideon Allen.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Charlene McDaniel of Washington Court House, a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Larry D’Oench of Montville, NJ; four grandchildren, Kyle (Maureen) D’Oench, Russell (Amy) D’Oench, Diane (Cory) Greene and Jon (Terri) Heidler, 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, including a great niece, Tammy Wilson Myers who was reared as a daughter.
A celebration of life service will be held this summer when safety conditions permit.
