LORRAINE (KITTY) HOPKINS (Updated)

Lorraine Kittelson (Kitty) Hopkins, 97, of Worthington, Ohio, formerly of Washington Court House, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 14, 2018, at 3:50 p.m. at Sunrise (Bickford) Senior Living in Worthington where she had been residing since April 2015.

She was born March 26, 1921, in St. Paul, MN to Dr. John Asdahl and Mary Blanche Otis Kittelson and spent her school years in Sioux Falls, SD.  She was a 1942 graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls with a bachelor’s degree in music.

Kitty taught code in the Air Force radio school at Sioux Falls where she met her husband, Maurice B. Hopkins, who was a student in her class.  She taught one year at the Washington Middle School.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church where she served as choir director for 25 years.  She had been a Sunday school teacher and played in the bell choir.  She belonged to the Cecelian Music Club where she played violin in the string group and sang in the triple trio. She had served as a volunteer with the Fayette County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

On April 23, 1944, she married Maurice B. Hopkins.  He preceded her in death on August 27, 1986.  She was also preceded by a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Otis and Betty Kittelson and two sisters, Eva Kittelson and Jean Meyer and her husband, Les.

She is survived by two children, Maryann and Paul Hartley of Worthington and John and Jody Hopkins of Delaware, Ohio; a granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Hartley and a great grandson, Aiden Paul Hartley Jennison, both of Worthington.  She also leaves behind her loving friends in the Lunch Bunch, Sunday school classmates, fellow choir members and her church friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 12 Noon at the Grace United Methodist Church, 301 E. Market St., Washington C.H., Ohio, with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at the church, officiating.  Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Private burial of the cremains will be in Washington Cemetery.

Kitty’s family extends special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Sunrise (Bickford) Assisted Living for the exceptional care and concern they extended to Kitty.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
