Jon Dale Merritt, 84, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 3:58 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Manor of Washington Court House where he had been residing since August.

Jon was born June 11, 1934, in Richmond, Indiana to Earlie L. and Grace Merritt.  He was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School and lived most of his life in this community.

Before his retirement, he was a supervisor at the Budd Company in Frankfort.

Jon was a member of Bloomingburg Lodge F & AM #449; 32nd Degree Masons, Valley of Columbus and Fayette Aerie #423 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Merritt and a sister, Betty Garringer.

Jon is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Ann Hughes; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Robin Merritt of Washington Court House; a daughter, Melody Turner of Reynoldsburg; three grandchildren, Katrina, Justin and Chris and several great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Friday, October 5, 2018, from 4-6 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.

There will be no funeral service and burial will be at a later date in the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery.

    I pray that God gives you peace during this difficult time. I always considered Jon one of my friends. I first met Jon at Montgomery Ward. We both worked in the men’s department. I enjoyed working with him. He was a wonderful man. He has been my neighbor for many years too.
