EDNA MAY WALSTON

Edna May Walston, 90, of Grove City, was united with her Lord and her beloved family in heaven on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at 9:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter and son-in-law where Edna had been residing since June, 2014, due to her failing health.

She was born October 16, 1927, in Fayette County, Ohio to Harold H. and Elsie Siemon Lininger.  She attended Marion School in Fayette County through the 8th grade and graduated from Washington High School in the class of 1945.  She was a lifelong resident of Washington Court House and Fayette County before moving to Grove City in 2014.

Edna had worked at J.C. Penney in Washington Court House over 30 years and retired as catalog supervisor when the store closed in1992.  For ten years after retirement, she enjoyed working as a volunteer at Eastside Elementary School with the students in her daughter’s classroom.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church for over sixty years where, for many Sundays, she enjoyed caring for and rocking the babies of the church during the church hour.  She also helped in the kitchen with the preparation of many luncheons.

Edna’s life centered around her faith and love for the Lord, and her love for family and friends.  She read her Bible and other devotionals daily.  She was an avid reader of inspirational books from her own collection and many for the library.  She was a wonderful cook and baker which always made family gatherings and holidays very special.  Even into her eighties, collecting and trying new recipes was her passion.  She will be remembered for her generous and loving nature.

On May 22, 1947, she married Donald Walter Walston.  He preceded her in death on September 13, 1989.  She was also preceded by a son, D. Bruce Walston on December 17, 2012, and a sister-in-law, Marian Baughn on December 3, 2015.

Edna is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and William Heinz of Grove City; a daughter-in-law, Anne Walston-Muir of Columbiana, OH; four grandchildren and their spouses, Stacie and Jim Thomas of Boardman, OH, Matthew and Diana Heinz of Walnut Creek, CA, Michael and Emily Walston of West Middlesex, PA, and Dr. Steven and Mamie Walston of Akron, OH; nine great grandchildren, Olivia and Jacob Thomas, Faith, Andrew and Ella Walston, Will, Lyla, and Jack Heinz and Cora Walston and nephews, Brian Baughn of Washington Court House and Stephen Baughn of Tokyo, Japan.

Carol – I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I remember when she worked with my mom at Penney’s. Mom always thought a lot of your mom. I hope you find comfort in knowing that she had a good long life. Cherish the memories. Debbie Edwards Jones
