E. Lucille Davis, 101, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Friday, July 30, 2021, at 4:10 p.m. at Carriage Court Assisted Living where she had been residing since January.
Mrs. Davis was born August 5, 1919, in Jeffersonville, Ohio to Ottis and Audrey Miller Straley and was a lifelong resident of this community.
She was a 1937 graduate of Jeffersonville High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Wilmington College. Before her retirement in 1975, she had been a second grade school teacher for 36 years, six in New Holland and the remainder in the Washington City Schools.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church; Alpha Delta Chapter of Ohio State Organization of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid bell collector and was a member of the American Bell Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Thomas Davis on November 28, 1958; by her special family friend, James G. “Jim” Shoaf on April 8, 2020, and an infant brother.
She is survived by her friends and caregivers, Ronald and Sharie Shoaf of London and several cousins.
The funeral will be Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
