Donald Mathew Gilpen, 79, of Washington Court House, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 2:55 a.m. at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he had been a patient since December 7.

Donald was born October 1, 1941, in Pickaway County, Ohio to George and Sarah Alice Short Gilpen.  He lived most of his life in New Holland and Washington Court House.

He was a machine operator at Stephen’s Pipe and Steel, Inc. in Mount Sterling for 42 years before his retirement in 2006.

Donald attended the Wesleyan Holiness Church in Washington Court House.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eugene, Richard and George Gilpen, Jr. and three sisters, Mary Workman, Lillie Mae Kemp and Sada Lee Gilpen.

Donald is survived by his wife, the former Freda Sue Stinson whom he married May 18, 1963; four children and their spouses, Donna Sue and Jimmy McCullough of Metter, GA, Richard and Samantha Gilpen of Washington Court House, Patty and Darryl Rheinscheld of Mount Sterling and Dorothy and Dale Clark of Washington Court House; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; a sister, Sarah Gilpen of Washington Court House; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Shirley Gilpen and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, December 18, 2020, at 1p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in New Holland with the Rev. Leonard Roop officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Holland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home in New Holland from 11 a.m. Friday until the time of the service.
