Lucinda Sue (Cinda) Slager, 77, of Washington Court House died Sunday evening, August 6. 2017, at her home. She had been in declining health.
Cinda was born April 19, 1940, on the family farm in Fayette County, Ohio near Bloomingburg to Jess Alfred and Esther Schilling Schlichter. She was a 1958 graduate of Bloomingburg High School and attended Ohio University.
She was a clerk for the Ohio Water Service for 20 years. She continued as a clerk in the water department when the City of Washington purchased the water company and later was a municipal court clerk, retiring after 13 years of service with the City of Washington.
Cinda was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church; she was a member and past worthy matron of the former Bloomingburg Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and currently was a member of Jefferson Chapter #300 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Jeffersonville. She was an active member of the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine of North America; was a member and past president of both the Zeta Chapter and the All County chapter of the Child Conservation League; had been a member of the board of directors of the Carnegie Public Library; was a volunteer with the Fayette County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and formerly was a 4-H advisor.
She was preceded in death by her father in 2006; her mother in 2009, and two brothers, Teddy A. Schlichter in 1942, and Jonathon J. Schlichter in 1988.
Cinda is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Bill Pearce of Westerville; Amanda and Craig Pickerill of Washington Court House; five grandchildren, Meghan of Washington, D.C. and Morgan Pearce and Gabriel, Maria and Toby Pickerill; the father of her children, Tom Slager; a brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Anne Schlichter of Columbus; a nephew Matthew Schlichter of Brooklyn, NY; numerous cousins and special family friends, Cindy (Williams) Sholler and Jill (Schlichter) Phillips.
Calling hours will be held at the Grace United Methodist Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017, with Mell Wickensimer, director of visitation at the church, officiating. The service will be from 1 to 2 p.m. including an Eastern Star ceremony. Burial will follow immediately in the Madison Mills Cemetery with a friends and family gathering at Grace United Methodist Church following in Fellowship Hall.
